I rarely leave negative reviews but the disgraceful customer service I encountered here deserves to be heard. I visit Steamboat once or more every year and have been a Christy Sports customer for as long as I can remember. When I went to pick up rental skis, the guy at the register supposedly asked if I wanted demo skis even though I had reserved the sport model. I can’t recall this, though he may have casually slipped it in conversation without mentioning that it’s not what I had reserved. Why would I want something different than what I took the time to reserve online a month prior? The skis I did receive were more beat up than any I’ve rented in 15 years of skiing, but that wasn’t the problem. When I looked at the reservation email the next day, and saw that I was supposed to have owed around $70 less than what I was charged, having already paid a deposit.
When I stopped in and asked about it, two guys were rude and argumentative so I asked to speak to someone higher up. One of them boastfully declared that he was the head of the rental shop and if I wanted to talk to someone I’d have to talk to him. After more arguing, he said it would take 45 minutes or so to get a store manager. I said I would wait, then finally he agreed to reimburse me for the misunderstanding if I would bring the skis back in to exchange.
After walking all the way to our condo to retrieve the skis and then back down, he eventually handed me a refund receipt covering just the price difference for the day I hadn’t yet ski’d rather than all three as he had indicated. This was nothing more than a slap in the face. It was never about the money, but the shady tactics and disrespectful attitude that no one should have to put up with. I will never visit this location again and steer my guests in other directions as well. As customers, we have so many options that it blows my mind when workers are rude and disrespectful like this guy. Common courtesy goes a long way in business...
Read moreI was dubious about the ski rental delivery thing at first but I am now convinced that having my skis delivered by D2D is the only way to go.
I rented some skis from D2D after calling them directly and setting up an appointment. I was unsure as to how they were going to accomplish a fitting over the phone, but the person who took my reservation was professional and courteous and she assured me that D2D would assist me in any way they could if I was displeased with their service.
After arriving in Steamboat I was able to go straight to my condo. I was met shortly thereafter at the prearranged time by Brian, a D2D tech. He was a nice guy and he got me into a comfortable pair of boots and some performance skis that I ended up really enjoying. I was worried I was getting in over my head with the demo package but Brian had a couple of different options and after we discussed my skiing ability/style he seemed to find the perfect fit.
Everything went smoothly with the fit of the boot and the skis. I was ultimately very pleased with the way I skied in the gear that I was fitted with and I ended up enjoying my time on the slopes immensely.
When it was all said and done, I rang D2D once more and they came and picked the skis and the boots up from the condo at a time that was convenient for me. This was, by far, the easiest and best rental experience that I’ve ever had. I will seek the services of D2D out the next time I am heading...
Read moreUpgrades not worth it, looong lines. I reserved a high end "demo" package, skis, boots & poles, and paid online. Been skiing 40+ years, wanted something good for adult son, especially good boots. Boots are the most important thing. Loved the idea we could pick up the evening before our first day of skiing and the location was right there at the Steamboat gondola. Well, at 4:00 we showed up and the line was out the door. The "test" ski counter on the 2nd floor was only for test driving "new" skis you might purchase, which is what "demo" meant in my day. These "demo" packages are no different than regular rentals - same boots, same poles, same long line,... Not worth it. Prepaying did not save any time or get us anything better. It took well over an hour to weave through the line and get set up. Boot fitting consists of measuring your foot and grabbing a pair of boots. All the boots are the same. No upgrades. I felt ripped off. Next station, skis, wait another 5-10 minutes. The tech asked a couple questions and grabbed some skis. They were OK, but they were slow. My son could not keep up on the run-outs or green roads, which you can't avoid at Steamboat. Maybe the skis had the wrong wax, or no wax. Overall, I see no reason to pay the high price I paid for a "demo" package, and the lines could not have been worse at another shop, so next time I go...
