Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge — Attraction in Stowe

This was our first time in Vermont and we were drawn to this lodge because of all the beautiful manicured pictures posted online. The staff was very nice and welcoming. If there was anything we needed it was addressed right away. The location is great! it is in the middle of almost everything. Restaurants and Main Street are 5 - 10 min away. We walked to the Bench a few times (highly recommend that spot).

However, there were a few disappointments. The room that we got was not the one we had seen online. Of course there are many other types of rooms, but I feel like there could have been at least a few other pictures listed online that would also highlight the other rooms. We had a real fireplace, and that was nice but once again, we thought we were getting one of the rooms that were listed on the website. It was very misleading to say the least.

Room service was awful I had to turn it down during our whole stay. After they had "cleaned up" our room on the first day we felt like our room was dirtier than when we left it. Very disappointing. We came back from skiing and the bathroom sink had not been cleaned up. The carpet had not been cleaned up either. We had noticed that perhaps the cleaning crew was not being given the appropriate cleaning tool to deliver a better job, because all we saw was a dirty old broom that was used for all the rooms. A vacuum cleaner would have been best in my opinion.

Our bed was nicely made, but I am pretty sure that the bed sheets were being put on the floor before being put back on the mattress, because the amount of dirt that we found in our bed was pretty alarming. I had to redo the whole bed and shaking it all off so we could sleep in a dirt free bed. This was my first time ever where I had to clean our room and make our bed because I did not trust room service to do a decent job at it. Additionally, it snowed non stop and no one cared to remove the pile snow on the entry way of our lodge. We had to be careful not to fall on the icy ground, on which I almost did on a few occasion while walking to the car. Often time we would come to hang out in the common area and there were dirty plate and glasses on the tables. I think that this place could be better managed overall. I understand it's not a 5 star hotel, but at the same time, we have stayed at places much cheaper than this one and the experience was much better overall.

There is a pool, a jacuzzi, a sauna and a gym. It is nice to have for sure, however, when we saw the hard yellow brownish line on the wall of the jacuzzi there was no way we were going to use it. God knows when was the last time it was deep cleaned. What a shame, because this property has so much potential for greatness and yet it falls in the category of below average. I was really struggling with myself to rather post a review or not because this post is not meant to bad mouth the business but rather to give them an opportunity to improve in some areas, because in the end we had a fantastic time. We enjoyed our stay there, and perhaps reading the comments from their clients point of view will give them a chance to fix what needs to be fixed so other travelers can truly enjoy the beauty of Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge...

Disappointing Stay at Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge - Not as Advertised

Our recent check-in experience at Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, was far from ideal and set the tone for a truly disappointing stay. Upon entering, no one at the front desk greeted us. After waiting several minutes, we had to ring a bell to summon a receptionist.

The receptionist's demeanor was definitely off. He seemed put out by our presence, as if we were inconveniencing him. It was 4:00 PM, a standard check-in time, and we questioned why the desk was unattended in the first place. We had to summon him with a doorbell. When we informed him we were checking in for one night, there was no mention of the welcome bag for kids that we had been explicitly told via text message we would receive (see image). This was particularly frustrating as I had gone through the effort of filling out a detailed form with information about my children – a seemingly pointless exercise given the lack of acknowledgment.

When my husband inquired about available activities, the receptionist handed him a map and suggested we "spend time looking at it on our own." This unhelpful response continued when we left the main building; he offered no guidance on where our room might be located. When asked about a cart to carry out belongings, we were told they were all in use.

The room was "okay" and did not match the vibrant online photos. We had to drive our car to locate the room door. The sink remained clogged for our entire stay.

Furthermore, the hotel's online presence proved faulty – the menu button for breakfast information (which isn't included, and is extra!) did not work (see photo).

Our frustration escalated when I texted customer care about the missing welcome bag and was instructed to return to the main office to retrieve it. When I conveyed this to the receptionist, he asked to see the children before directing them to a cart of what can only be described as "lame" items. My 9-year-old receives far better goodie bags at a typical birthday party. Seeking activities for the kids, I asked again and was pointed to a poster detailing activities from Thursday to Sunday. Given that it was Tuesday, this was incredibly misleading and useless information for our current stay.

To top it all off, when we attempted to get some tea to take to the indoor pool, the water was lukewarm, not hot. This lack of basic hospitality was incredibly inconsiderate.

They have an indoor and outdoor pool, a sauna, and a workout facility. We used the indoor pool and basically had it to ourselves, which was nice. (The pool is open until 9:00, but check-in is no earlier than 4:00! - How is that enough time?)

Overall, we rate our experience as disappointing, 3 out of 10. We will not return to Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge and do not recommend it!

PS—They bill you in increments, which isn't pleasant to see as you bring your items into the room. They bill you half at check-in and a separate lodging fee of $23. We had two invoices sent to our email before we could bring our stuff into the room. Not a very...

This is the old Golden Eagle Resort, which has been remodeled and is under new management. First, let me say the rooms are super cute and cozy. I put this place in the category of “millennial motor lodge.” It’s been upgraded and it’s got a new look, but it’s still, at its core, a motel. We stayed in lower alpine for four nights, and the room was perfect for our needs. We could park the car right outside the room, making our morning drive to the mountain very convenient. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot. We appreciated outlets next to the bed, a TV, a small fridge, and two bath robes.

Management was also lovely and really responsive. They brought us champagne to our room that my sister had called in for us. They answered any questions we had. In the lodge area (which we usually drove to), we could order snacks or drinks.

A few comments on what, I guess, is a work in progress: my hope is that management intends to upgrade the pool, locker rooms, and sauna, but those spaces do not feel like they have been significantly altered in what has mostly been a surface renovation. The pool, sauna, and jacuzzi could use a little more attention, and the lockers in the locker rooms are off limits. I think they need to upgrade these facilities and finish the construction in the pool area before I can give this place my full blessing. I did not go into the pool or jacuzzi as they just looked a little off putting. Tile could use a proper scrub with a power washer in a few spots, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to put an in ground jacuzzi outside, where the walled off construction currently is. In addition, a few comments on the room buildings and rooms themselves: they should paint instead of “patch” the paint on the exteriors of the buildings that haven’t yet been repainted. The color isn’t the same and it’s a bit obvious. I did also think it was weird that they chose to paint the towel heaters in the bathrooms? You don’t paint hardware and it came off as “speed renovation.”

Other recommendations would be to add some silverware and two extra cups to each room. I might also give rooms a humidifier and an under the door draft blocker since some of these doors don’t quite stop the drafts.

Pricing was close to Von Trapp lodge for the weekend we stayed here. Prices in Stowe have gone up in the last ten years, but I am not sure these guys should be pricing quite so closely to Von Trapp until they finish work on the spa and facilities building. The closeness in price significantly drops my impression of value. I suppose it kind of makes up for it on location if you intend to take the public bus to the mountain, since it is on the route. If priced closer to $250-280, this place would make a lot more sense to me.

Again, I’m picky, I notice details, and I generally don’t stay in motels, so take my thoughts with that in mind. I really liked our room and the service here, but management should consider the...
