Shady Lake Apartments — Attraction in Streetsboro

All the bad reviews are true and the reality. Expect to lose your deposit and threatened with more. Since the new management, it has become downright confrontational on lease and money. 1 when they took over, now responsible for water sewer and garbage. Min of 35$ though I was told it was "small fee for water". 2 online payment is another $35+ fee. 3 if late or in disagreement, expect an eviction notice immediately. No calls, reminders to pay with late fee. They want to start the legal process ASAP. 4 gym was sitting closed for all of covid,may not be open even now. Money spent on office remodel and making things LOOK nice when buildings are not. 5 tennis court was in disrepair for all the time I lived there 4+ years. 6 installed low flow toilet which for anyone less than 5'9" will leave you dangling 7 installed low flow faucets which now take twice as long to shower. 8 parking lot in desperate need of repairs. Always icy in winter. 9 continue to remove trees. Once was shady lake for a reason. Replaced with rocks. Woohoo. 10 removed most bike storage for more parking spots$$. You cant store bikes on balcony. Check the closest ones before assuming. 11 let the mail boxes get in such disrepair that USPS stopped delivering. Didn't say anything until people noticed and had to go-to Kent to pickup mail. Nevermind there were needed medications and pension checks in the mail. 12 mold in showers and bugs dropping from ceiling vent. But your responsibility to let them know. They should be inspecting and in good condition to start. Core issue is in the roof. See history with the buildings from an electrical fire in the past. 13 online app started sharing bad stories which then got deleted by management. Started a Facebook group instead to share issues. See original posts on the group. 14 bribing good reviews with gift giveaways 15 numerous complaints since new management are more than a single cranking and poor tenant. 16 not management but hallways constantly smells like skunk and not the four legged kind. 17 music blasting from cars at any hour. 18 constant tenant turnover due to all the reasons above. 19 when I went monthly they charge 10% and round up. Lease rate was increased 4 times in less than a year.

If there are laws on predatory landlords,this is a perfect example.

Go elsewhere and save yourself the headaches. Plenty of...

I lived here for a little over two years and Shady Lake has been a great experience. The only reason I am leaving is because I purchased a house. I cannot say enough good things about the office staff. Any time I had an issue (which was very rarely due to the exceptional care that is taken by the outstanding maintenance staff) they were more than professional and courteous. Any time work needed to be done on/around the building or in the apartment, ample notice was given. The maintenance staff responded quickly and professionally. One time they were at my apartment within 5 minutes of me calling the office. Its hard to find places that offer that type of exceptional service. You can tell from the moment you turn into the property that Shady Lake is a GREAT place to live. Not once did I ever not feel safe living here. The complex is well lit. The landscaping and snow removal were top notch. More often than not, the roads in the apartment complex were cleaner than the main roads that you travel on.

Location: You cannot beat the location. The Turnpike is roughly 5-7 minutes away. Downtown Kent is 10-15 minutes away. Akron is about 35 or so minutes away. The geographic location makes Shady Lake a great place to reside for professionals and students alike. The ease of access to main roads is phenomenal. You cant get a better location.

Dining and Shopping: Shady Lake is extremely close to an abundance of dining and shopping, some of which is even located at the entrance of the complex. Grocery and retail stores are all within a 5-7 minute drive. Aurora Farms outlets are about 15 minutes away. 14 is something that takes a little getting used to, however, it is not that bad. My apartment building was quiet and I did not hear the road noise.

If you are looking for a great, safe community, look no further than Shady Lake. The office staff along with the property itself will make you feel...

We moved here from settlers landing, where we had an horrible experience& way over paid (not to mention MOLD!!!! I wish I would have taken a picture of our air filter when we moved out, completely filled with dust and mold, even though "they had changed it" 3 months before), and ZERO parking. We are saving over$200/month moving here.

...I saw someone comment on here about parking, it made me laugh bc I have never have had a problem here. At settlers landing I almost always had to park two buildings away!! Unfortunately apartments in the snow belt I don't think ever salt (bc they don't wish to repave)... Have not had a winter here yet but I expect it to be icey.

We pay much less here with more space and a much better lay out. The outside of the buildings doesn't look that nice but inside is.

Few things that were wrong when we moved in were fixed right away, no problems (minus key issue, see below).

Love love love having a separate room for wash and dryer.. Also SO MUCH STORAGE SPACE!!

The appliances are older but work great. Down side is we had to buy washer, dryer, and microwave... But we found good deals and are a lot better than our previous apartment.

Why only 4 stars... -Gym has no free weights, is a down side. -Also no pool, but we knew that coming in. -After our background check they left a voice mail threatening we would lose our spot if we did not come sign the lease that day even though we gave our deposit??! both residents have to be present when doing the walk through to get both keys!? I think if it is signed off and I paid the rent both keys should be mine at the same time... This would not have been such a big problem if when we got the second key it worked, OR when we got the replacement 2nd key it worked.. Took about a week for replacement 2nd key, luckily they changed the lock right after that one did not work and gave us 2...
