The hotel was good enough, but as a diamond member of Hilton, I was very disappointed. First, the good...||The room was clean enough and the shower had good water pressure. In fact, the entire bathroom had great water pressure. The toilet had so much pressure that it was startling when someone flushed it.||The rest was not so great.||1. I did not get the room I paid for. I paid for an executive room on the top 3 floors. I was not on the top 3 floors and there did not seem to be anything executive about it.||2. Had I been on a higher floor, I may not have heard people hanging out until close to 1AM down around the fire on the ground floor. We had a room facing the ocean, and would have liked to enjoy the breeze with the window open. It was just too noisy. The noise went on long after the bar was closed.||3. As a diamond member, I was not feeling very appreciated. I like DoubleTree hotels because they usually take care of their Hilton diamond members when they can. In this case, I was told that no upgrades were available. When I checked their site, there were still rooms available that were a grade higher than the one we paid for. That was true for that night and the following night.||4. The internet was unusable. It was so bad that I could not get the work done I needed to do on Sunday evening. I ended up tethering my connection to my cell phone, which was a big hit on internet speed and made some tasks impossible.||5. The room I paid for was to include breakfast each day. When I arrived, I was told that it was not the case and that I only had my Diamond credit. They also had some weird rule about not being able to use it on the morning of departure if I used it on the evening of arrival. It was strange, and ended up costing me. In this case, it costed another 75 dollars or so that I was not planning on spending. When I add that to the extra paid for a room I did not get, it hurts a little.||I could pile on from there, but these are the things that I think people would care about. To sum it up...||-There is no appreciation for Diamond Members.|-They did not even upgrade me to the room that I paid for, let alone the available rooms that were a step up.|-The internet sucked.||I will not be staying here again, despite its great location. I can get a lot more bang for my buck at other DoubleTrees in the area and probably get internet that works. I still love DoubleTrees. Just...
Read moreGreat location close to numerous dining and shopping options. The hotel itself and the services it provides are somewhat basic, which didn't bother us. We booked an Executive King room directly through the hotel website which included a daily breakfast buffet. Compared to the Marriott Torrance/Redondo Beach across the street, the Doubletree Torrance - South Bay represented a much better value for us, plus we're Hiton Honors members.||Arrival & check-in was seamless with a friendly bellman who assisted with our bags, and our room, #1023, was clean with a very comfortable bed. The restaurant and bar we're under renovations, so the bar was somewhat make-shift in the lobby area with the breakfast buffet located in a small meeting room. the breakfast buffet wasn't impressive, however it served it's purpose, with a hostess that had a "prove to me that you paid for the buffet" mentality. The room was so small and so crowded, we decided to take our plates and coffee into the temperary bar area to eat for the first two mornings.||On the last morning, we had a flight to catch out of Long Beach, which meant we had to leave the hotel by 6:25 am. We went down at 6:00 am, which is when breakfast starts and we were told it would be "5 minutes." 5 minutes later, we were told it would be another 5 minutes. 5 minutes later, well you know where this is going. The "5 minute lady" was the same "prove it" hostess, so the attitude was somewhat unsurprising.||When we checked out, I asked for a credit for the last breakfast. I was told they would process my request and that I'd receive an email confirmation. I don't know whether a credit was issued or not. The reality is that it doesn't matter and it wasn't a big deal to us. It was much more important that we made it to the airport on-time.||All in all, this wasn't a bad hotel at all. The services are basic, the room was very clean and comfortable, and it was close to family members and friends that we were visiting in the Torrance area. Once the restaturant renovations are completed, this will be a real Doubletree hotel experience. Oh BTW, the warm cookies...
