Nice simple trails that are incredibly flat. Route passes over lake shore for a section, very beautiful. I appreciated being able to check out the lake in peace here. There's a lake Placid Dam in this place that I didn't know about, that was a nice place to stop. Doing the largest loop here seems to be around 2 miles or so. We were in and out in under an hour. Parking is on the road near a gate where this land starts.
There's a trail kiosk where one can sign in and view the map. The occasional information signs were nice. There were also small lettered or numbered indicators that I guess matched up to some guide that we didn't have. The trails here must match up with some that leave the area, there were a bunch of trail spurs leaving the ones marked on the map.
The trail was clear, wide, and dry. Since there's so much water around, there were a lot of small bugs when we were here. We rushed through. But we went during the last few hours of light, in June. I'm sure it's fine any other...
Read moreBeautiful trails along the shore of Lake Placid, up the ridge and in the woods. We went the day after one of the first snows of the season in November. The trail along the shore was quite muddy but passable. Wear waterproof shoes, for sure. Gorgeous and easy trail - our group included kids ages 4, 6 and 10, and everyone was able to complete with minimal complaints. The main Peninsula Trail is likely an old service road so it is well developed and mostly dry. We did not do the ridge trail but looked interesting. We did a 2.5-3 mile loop Peninsula trail to Boundary Trail, connecting to the Lake Shore Trail and back to the main road/trail to the parking lot. It took a little over an hour and provided beautiful views of the lake. We heard a couple of motorboats which could be a bummer during the summer season if they are nonstop (likely). Also there is probably some good fishing at the dam - we didn't bring our gear this time but made a mental note not to forget it next time. A great hike...
Read moreDog friendly Super easy walk, flat and no hills. At the end, there’s a dam and a dock where you can sit, dangle your feet, and enjoy the crystal clear, warm water. It was a beautiful day, so there were maybe two dozen people around — not too crowded, but we thought it might be a little more tucked away. Plenty of parking and really easy to find. Perfect little spot for a quick stroll and some...
