Ok … so first of all I am grateful that we have an upscale Indian restaurant in midst of Lake placid for all the Indian curries craving.
Having said that let’s come to the interiors . The place is upscale no doubt about that. Now having travelled from New Jersey and already spoiled by the many choices and authentic favour that is on offer in New Jersey… I personally found the taste of the food not authentic. Sorry .. but it’s the truth.
Now what is meant by authentic … depends upon on who your customer Is. For personally me… things to improve :
Curtail on excessive use of food coloring. Use better Cottage cheese or Paneer. It was chewy today. Can be much better sourced. Maybe use panner from Haldiram or make your honey panner in house.
@Chef - Need to improve on curries . Common chef you cannot play down Indian curries .. That’s our pride.
Chicken leg Tandoor- Marination needs more work. Kebab is just dry. And serve with the green chutney for heaven sake.
Green chutney- need more work for sure. It’s too coarsely grinded and the taste and texture needs to be relooked.
Panner 65 - it’s not a sauce dish. Please no food color and no sauce. Refer any video of chef - Ranveer Brar .. Vikas Khanna .. etc. I think you would know what I mean.
And most importantly
THE BIRYANI - chicken biryani is not Pulav. The biryani I had today was too much on Kedava water. Any artificial food color to biryani is a no no. Use saffron. There is enough supplies to US now. Cashew and raisins is a serious turn off for chicken biryani.
See I understand your target audience are not Indians or south Asians .. but I would love to visit a place who serves authentic curries/ food instead a plat-able version for non - Indians / non south Asians diners . I mean I would always go to an authentic restaurant for any other country cuisine irrespective to whether I can tolerate that taste.
Chicken lollipop - Again serve it with the right chilli paste sauce. I believe it was mayonnaise that the chicken lollipop was served.
Believe me … I want this place to shine as bad as the owners themselves or else I would be writing this review in the middle of night. I would be anyhow visiting the place again to see if you guys really improved . And I wish you and your team all the luck and fortune.
As an Indian hoping to visit the place again and would love to see few changes from what I experienced today.
Good luck...
Read moreTerrible Waiting which has killed the mood in every other possible way. Have seen people coming , waiting for long times and at times even leave. We waited half an hour to get our table, followed by 45 mins of wait for our ordered food to arrive. This itself has let down me in many ways. Even after so much wait is the food worth, I would say no definitely I will not wait for one hour to eat food at this place. This was on a Thursday evening, at first looking at the place so full thought it was pretty busy , yes it is busy with every other table occupied, less did I know that tables were full because probably people were waiting for at-least half hour or more to get their ordered food. I Understand it was during the busy week when the fall foliage was a the peak, however I felt that somehow, to go orders were going on the faster rate than food to be served for people dined in, wish they had better arrangements for such busy times.
Their seating was uncomfortable, the table and sofas were a bit far apart, had to come to corner of the sofa to have the food. They should pull the sofas a lil close by in my opinion, I could not sit comfortably while having my food or even to chat.
The person who was taking our ordered was so unfocused , when asked for food suggestions there was no great response it was like yes for everything and again totally unfocused, which clearly not how someone should be treating the guests.
Coming to food their complimentary papad was great, loved it. We ordered Paneer Pasandh , Garlic Naan & Schezwan Fried Rice. According to the description of panner pasandh they should have been stuffed paneer, but well we did not see anything of that sort, either the item was described wrong on menu or they missed it to prepare the way it was portrayed. The curry was good , however the paneer could have been better for sure, not the best I had. The garlic naan was doughy and lacked the typical crisp and golden-brown finish, resulting it to be chewy. Schezwan fried rice had the flavor however they overdid it with too many peas and corn which killed the mood.
Overall this place has the potential to be great Indian place at this location, hope they take customers review seriously and make some changes as they go by. I would not visit this place again after the...
Read moreIf you’re in the Lake Placid region and craving authentic Indian cuisine with a fine dining twist, Heritage Indian Grill is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you step inside, the restaurant exudes a warm, inviting vibe, perfectly blending traditional Indian charm with modern elegance. It’s clear this place is serious about both ambiance and food.
The food was outstanding, with standout dishes that hit all the right notes. The Palak Paneer was perfectly spiced, with a creamy texture that complemented the fresh paneer. The naan was some of the best I’ve had in a while—soft, pillowy, and just the right level of chewiness. Dal Tarka was another highlight—rich, flavorful, and comforting with just the right amount of seasoning.
However, while the Indian dishes were stellar, the Chinese options on the menu could use a bit more punch. They were tasty, but they were missing that deep, bold flavor you might expect from Indo-Chinese fare. It’s a small quibble, but one that could be improved for those craving that fusion touch.
The service was impeccable—attentive without being overbearing. The staff made sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal, and their hospitality added to the overall positive experience.
As a nice surprise, they treated us to a dessert on the house: Kheer. This wasn’t your typical kheer—there was a subtle touch of coconut milk that elevated the dish, making it both creamy and slightly exotic. It was a perfect ending to the meal and left us all impressed.
Overall, Heritage Indian Grill offers a memorable dining experience with great food, excellent service, and a fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy delicious Indian cuisine in the Lake...
