My experience was very displeasing to say the least from William who is a makeup artist at southcenter mall in Tukwila, WA on 5.20.23. I always book my appointments with Sephora at southcenter due to me feeling they do a great job. When booking I always state "please book with skilled makeup artist who specializes with darker completions". William introduced himself and my first question after saying "hi, nice to meet you; prior to starting are you skilled to work with darker tones?" William, must have took it offensive and stated "we all are skilled in all tones". William rolled his eyes, looked me up and and while having a very condescending tone".
Automatically I felt disrespected and shocked by his response. Any person who has a darker tone is faced with it being too bright, too dark, flushed out and most importantly a ashy and dry look. My question and request was not unethical, disrespectful and or offensive. If anything he was very offensive, dismissive and disrespectful.
This is my 17 year olds prom and Williams response should have be more professional. After that small interaction, within seconds of my question, William ushered my daughter to the chair, he asked her questions and she responded. The last statement from my daughter is please don't over bake or add a heavy look. I then proceeded with saying the only reason she is asking is due to her pictures not wanting to be flushed out. William ignored me, rolled his eyes again and turned his back towards me.
If it wasn't my daughter's special day, I would have walked out and not paid for any services. I excused myself from being in the store, so I will not come across rude, aggressive or ignorant by my response. I was definitely tooken back by how I was treated and we just met him less than 3-5 minutes.
He took the opportunity of me wanting to take pictures of my child while getting her makeup done due to his attitude and me not wanting to ruin the moment for my daughter. This is a special day that I am not able to replace and that is what is hurtful as a parent to be faced with disrespectful behavior and not being included in her special moment. I would have loved to take her transition pictures before and after.
I did speak with two managers due to me feeling hurt, disappointed and most importantly disrespected as a paying customer. The managers did an amazing job with listening and communicating to me in a professional manner. I pray they spoke with him, cause his unprofessional behavior was not warranted, especially if I only asked is he skilled in darker tones. reassure your customers and know to be respectful to all, it's a very important question for someone who have a dark complexion. I am glad I did not treat him how he treated me cause then I would be the disrespectful customer. Hire and train more professional and caring employees who can communicate with all walks of life and know not that a question is valid and to not take it personal, it's your job to reassure your customers with confidence in your work or...
Read moreI love Sephora but this location (Tukwila) was very displeasing as of recently. I was relentlessly followed around the store and it was obvious they thought I was stealing even though I was just smelling perfumes. As with many cosmetics stores, samples are put out so that you can decide what you like, I was testing out a few perfumes with my cousin so I could get her advice on what scent suited me best and it was clear 3 different employees were sent to follow us. One of them seemed surprised yet displeased when I walked right up to her and asked for assistance with my decided perfume (she was clearly sent to hover). And the cashier was not nice either, I did not catch her name but she gave my cousin (who purchased her items right before me in line) dirty looks, as well as giving me dirty looks. Very judgmental looks. This cashier switched up her attitude after finding out we were Sephora members. And what seemed to be her dismay, I payed and was unfazed because I knew she was waiting for some kind of reaction from me as if I had something to be guilty of. I moved about my day and was polite, but the attitude was quite notable. Not very customer service friendly if you get my drift. Better off ordering online and picking your items up and guessing your shades & perfume preference. Going in-store is suppose to be a fun and friendly experience, not a...
Read moreHoisen and Natalia ( around 6pm Thursday jun 29) were literally amazing to me! They helped me try out many products to see how it fit with my skin color and complexion. Hoison went through probably 7 different foundation types or shades with me to find the right one. They didn’t get frustrated or put off by the length of time it took to try out the products. They both really took their time to help me figure out which shades were best for me. Natalia made a few samples of primers because generally every primer breaks out my skin so she wanted me to try it out before buying the whole thing which is perfect, then I can get one that works. They ran back and forth to get wipes and tissues and makeup sponges and different shades of product. I was looking for foundation, setting powder, a contour stick and I got all of those plus a Huda beauty lipstick that looked so good I couldn’t leave without it! They both deserve a raise for their patience and kindness and willingness to keep track of all the products I was using and what worked for me and what didn’t. This was 1000% better than the experience I had at Ulta. The people working at Sephora seemed to have a lot more product knowledge which helps when you’re surrounded by thousands of products and you’re trying to make a decision...
