I can't say enough good things about this place. I was in the middle of a family emergency where I had to come down to Virginia Beach because both my parents were very ill and going back and forth from the hospital and the nursing home. I had no place to stay except hotels, and I happened to find this hotel not too far from the hosp/nursing home. The hotel staff is just fantastic and they work with you to create a homey atmosphere and treat you completely like a family member. I love the laundry room ensconced within the fitness center -- you can do laundry and work out at the same time. It's 24 hours and you can access it as well as an utility room where you can get everything you need and just pay the front desk. Also, one of the most helpful things this hotel does is it DOES NOT charge separately for incidentals every time you do a new reservation if you need to extend your stay. They just hold the incidental fee and release it when you finally check out. That is just very, very, helpful and so very KIND and helpful bc I know hotels that will try to clean you out with those incidental fees. I also love how they work with you to get you the kind of room you need... the staff is just so very kind and warm and just very, very well-mannered. The parking is usually near full but there's always some space available and the walking distance from the parking spaces to the hotel isn't far at all and feels fairly safe. I would stay here again and again if I was able to get a reservation. The only issue I have with the hotel is how full it is always and you have to be very vigilant about reserving a room you need, otherwise you can be out of luck and have to go stay at another hotel. I needed to extend my stay for a while because I lost my father in January, and had to take care of my mom in the nursing home, and this hotel and its staff was so very kind and warm to me through what was probably one of the most difficult and darkest periods of my life. Thomas, Chandi and everybody else -- thank you for making my life a little easier this year. Stay safe and I hope to come back soon again. Take care, all of you, and warmest...
Read moreCheck-In: The check-in experience was disappointing. I traveled with two dogs, expecting a $75 pet fee, only to learn it was $75 per pet. This was not clearly stated on the website. Had I known, I would have left them with a sitter. Charging $150 for pets, with no refund, feels like a profit-driven policy and Ill be reaching out to Corporate about this issue. Additionally, the hotel’s refusal to accept my Chime credit card—despite IHG generally allowing it—forced me to transfer funds to another account, risking potential fraud. This, too, was not stated on the website.
Rooms: The room was functional and met my needs, but there were several issues. The curtains were filthy, the reclining chair was awkwardly placed, and the frying pan and coffee pot were dirty, requiring thorough cleaning. Cosmetic updates are needed, but the hot water and water pressure were excellent. However, as an extended stay, it lacked essential cleaning tools like a vacuum, broom, or mop. Being on the first floor near the exit was convenient for taking my dogs out, though the limited potty area was surprising.
Amenities: The on-site shopette, gym, laundry, and borrow station were nice perks. However, I was frustrated by the lack of a convenient trash disposal area. While I was informed of a dumpster out back, it wasn’t practical to use. As someone with hospitality experience, I try to minimize the workload for Housekeeping, but this made it challenging.
Would I stay again? Yes. At least now I know what to expect. While the hotel isn't quite up to the standards I'm accustomed to, it served its purpose.
I’d also like to thank Marcus at the front desk. I’m sure I wasn’t his favorite guest, but he handled my concerns with professionalism. He was simply the messenger and unfairly caught the “strays,” which I...
Read moreTwo words - bed bugs.
Upon discovering them and confirming with a friend with her PhD in Entomology, we called the front desk and asked for someone to come up and see. Before even looking closely the manager and maintenance insisted “that’s not a bedbug it’s too big” (the bites I had and a expert/professional ID would say otherwise). They disappeared assuring us they would check to be sure and call us back immediately. Thirty minutes go by.
We call back down to follow up. We had to request a room change twice and ask for an incident report stating why they wouldn’t move us before they shifted us to another room finally, and that still was met with aggression and belittling. The whole call I could hear the maintenance man in the background saying it wasn’t a bed bug and if I wanted to see what one really looked like I could just google and learn a whole lot.
When we checked out the next day we were assured that they had called Orkin and would have a report for us the next day after the appointment. Well that then turned into Orkin not being able to make it out for 3-5 days, and then no appointments for two weeks. And here we are almost a month later and still no report. So it’s pretty clear they just tried to placate us so we would get out of there quietly.
Besides that, the overall room layout was fine. The bathroom shower was a bit grimy, and the whole room seemed to need some TLC as there were some pretty ugly wear and tear spots throughout (cabinets with small chunks out of corners, bald spots on rugs, crumbs in kitchen). The bed was at least comfy while I was being feasted on in my sleep. 🫠
Overall - Unimpressed. Would never book a room with this specific location or this chain again since apparently this is the quality of staff training and...
