Hey reader, let me first set the scene. I'm a current student at UCLA residing within Westwood Village. Given the current housing climate in college towns, I had to stay with 4 others in a small 2 bedroom unit across the street from campus, so you can image just what my unit looked like after our lease was up. After we cleared our unit 100% of furnishings and trash, I made the tremendous mistake of hiring a MaidThis! cleaner for our apartment turnover.
I got into contact with customer service for suggestions, and they recommended selecting their "Move-Out" option with the preferred 3 hours clean time. So, two days before our lease expired an average run-of-the-mill guy arrives in the morning with some cleaning supplies in hand. Being my trustworthy self, I expected him - trusted him - to get the job done; I even furnished him with a checklist of things NOT to miss, provided by building's management. Goodness was I wrong. Later that afternoon, I had an inspection with the building manager who gladly pointed out the numerous things that my PROFESSIONAL maid failed to clean: 1) the inside of the oven 2) the inside of the microwave 3) the surfaces of my cabinetting 4) the window sills and blinds of every single window. The lack of attention to detail was appalling. You can rely better on myself, a college student who was SIMPLY raised by my parents correctly, to clean better than MaidThis!'s professionals.
It gets better. On the MaidThis! website there is an itemized list advertising all the services that are guaranteed with EVERY cleaning option, including sweeping and mopping. Mind you, I had laminate wood flooring, and this MAID had the decency to skip out on arguably the most important thing to do: sweeping and mopping. It was a tragedy. Later that night, with my building manager's commentary in mind, I picked up $20 worth of cleaning supplies, e.g. cleaning sprays, magic erasers, pine-sol, etc. and spent 2 hours finishing where my professional left off. I am shocked at the standards set by this cleaning service. They hire everyday people and "claim" that they are trained to work professionally, it is simply unacceptable.
What's worse, is after bringing my complaints to MaidThis! management, I have spent the past two weeks in limbo waiting for the director of customer relations, Len, to gather a statement from the maid (like it's discovery in some God forsaken litigation) and decide on a remedy. That remedy being a refund of $15, and a credit of $20 towards my next clean. I invested $275 to maximize the return I could bring on my apartment's security deposit, and I will still likely pay a substantial percentage out of my deposit to fix what my professional maid missed. It was a mistake to confide in this business, and even more so in their customer service. I will gladly take my future...
Read moretldr: they threw out perfectly good items, TOOK items, “lost” my keys, opened my mail, and I still had to pay my building’s cleaning fee.
To be fair, they did refund me, but cost me far more. I hired them for a move out cleaning. I had specified that there were still a few items in the unit and to set them aside as I would be back. Also to leave the keys (a fob and garage opener that they would need to get in and out) in the unit, where they found them. I noted all of this when setting up the appointment.
When I got back to my unit after cleaning, I noticed a good amount of my items (not all) were not present. I figured maybe the message wasn’t conveyed, fine, it was a move out cleaning after all. But then, I couldn’t find my keys anywhere. By the way, there’s also no way to contact the cleaners directly, there’s a middle man that just relays messages back and forth. So they couldn’t get me an answer immediately.
I thought they might have accidentally thrown my keys out when clearing my other items so I check the dumpers. I find my brand new throw pillows, $300 roll of unused car wrap (now scratched from being tossed in the dumpster), LV shopping bags. The best part was, my LV bag boxes and dustbags were no where to be found, hmm. There were more items that were tossed/no where to be found.
Apparently what happened to my keys was that as the cleaners were leaving a woman approached them, simply claimed to be building security and they just handed the keys over, despite my specific instructions to leave the keys in the unit. I was so caught up in finding my keys, I hadn’t even noticed at first that I had unopened packages in the unit that were now no longer in their shipping bags/boxes.
At the end of it all, the cleaning itself was a 6/10, I still had to pay my building $250 for them to clean it and $100 for a fob/remote replacement. I really wasn’t going to leave a review (this has been almost a year ago now) but everyone I’ve told this story to has told me to leave a review. So here it is. (I blocked my specific representative’s info as they had nothing to do with my service and was just a...
Read moreDon't waste your time with MaidThis. TL;DR the cleaners they sent left abruptly without finishing the job. At no point during the booking process or while the cleaners were on premise was I informed of their hard cutoff time and what that time is. MaidThis also won't really try to make things right for you: it's been a few days and the company hasn't reached out to me with a resolution.
Full details: I booked MaidThis service online which seemed straightforward at the outset. I got the 4 bedroom, less than 2000 sqft option which was the size of my place, paid extra for fridge and window cleaning. The total price tag was $400. On the appointment day, the cleaners came on time within the arrival window of 8-9am. I had a walkthrough with the cleaners and they got right to work. That's where the positive experience ended.
I was shocked that at 12:30pm sharp the cleaners just started packing up, saying that their boss told them to leave for the next assignment. That's when I learnt that the cleaners had no knowledge of MaidThis and my booking details (MaidThis hired their boss who in turn sent them to my house). So it doesn't matter when I said I was never told of the time they had to leave, the cleaners were gone in a flash and left one room untouched and my kitchen half dirty.
I called MaidThis straightaway to file a complaint. They later texted back that they could send a second team of cleaners to finish the job. It has been a few days now and they never follow up on when they would send that second team. Again, I am sure that there are many other similarly priced cleaning service that will finish the job for the money you paid them to, but MaidThis is not it so steer...
