I think this is about the best French restaurant in California or perhaps the US. This was not the intended destination, but my friend and I were extremely glad that we went, since we're Francophiles!! They feature classically French dishes, but also Italian, making it a bit of fusion cuisine. Okay, a mojito is not French, but it was one of the best I have had in a very long time! I stuck to French cuisine. Started with soup a l'onion. Delicious! A lot of gruyere and the right amount of onions, bread and soup. Next were the escargots in olive oil with a lot of garlic! Yum! Main course was the mussels! Those had to be the largest, most succulent mussels I have ever had! They came with fries, but you really didn't need them. I brought them home. Last was the Napoleon or mille feuille. Creamy! There were three layers: one with just the cream, second with strawberries, and the last with nuts. Wow! Never had one like that!
The proprietor was very kind. He brought us our drinks and was very kind when we spoke to him in French. Wait staff was very courteous and we felt no pressure to eat and leave. To show how good this place was, we ended up sitting next to a well known French actor. My friend recognized him first. They say that if people of the same nationality as the restaurant dine there, it's usually a compliment to the restaurant and a testament of the food. Well, that may be so, but we Francophiles will definitely be dining again at this restaurant!...
Read moreI usually dont write reviews, nor I consider myself a super picky customer, but this experience was just super negative. We were there yesterday afternoon for an early dinner. It is definitely a good location, great for people watching, cant fault that.
dried food bits on the forks... (yes, changed it 2 times...) ordered shrimp bisque, it had a total of 2 shrimps and the soup was out of a can. (confirmed by the waitress) I ordered a smoked salmon pizza with a cream cheese sauce. Well, it was exactly as described. Burned pizza (very gooey) with philadelphia cream cheese on it and smoked salmon slices right out of the costco package.
It is a shame that guests are fooled with this kind of a food. You'd think you'd get some fresh food made from scratch, prepared by a chef / cook , instead of you'll get fancy names for canned / premade / not even a food court type of food.
Oh, yes, dont be fooled by the name, nothing is french, majority of the dishes are italien at best (by the name), and dont expect a culinary experience. Owner could not care less, as he is mainly focusing on tourists, who would never be back anyways. Nor we.
(must add, it was a great place with a good average, but tasty food...
Read moreVery disappointing experience.
We went there for brunch, I ordered ricotta gnocchi that was tasteless and had prison dish texture, My husband ordered breaded chicken- felt like reheated and processed, unchewable and greasy chicken, nothing you would expect in a restaurant, that pretend to be a french bistro . When we complained about the chicken dish that was more than 70% untouched, the dish was taken away, without being offered a replacement (not that we wanted or needed).
Few minutes later when the bill arrived, we were surprised to find that we were charged for this disgusting dish (that was taken away to remind you). When we asked the waitress regarding the charge, she rolled her eyes and said "well this is the restaurant policy". This is unbelievable! We were never been treated so poorly at a restaurant, I will never come back here and honestly, there are so much better places on Sunset Blvd and the area, that you should do yourself a favor and keep away from this place. Just...
