Unfortunately I had the most unpleasant experience here in my entire Brussels trip.
We made a reservation and went there early in the evening for dinner. However from the moment we walked in we were made to feel unwelcome. First they said they have no tables and we should wait at the bar. Which was surprising as we had a confirmed reservation and 90% of the restaurant was unoccupied.
Nevertheless we decided to wait at the bar. The same staff member soon came around to ask if we were ready to order. At this point I had to ask about our table to which she said all tables are booked and the bar is the only available seating! However she failed to mention this to us but went straight to ordering? We decided to roll with it anyway giving them the benefit of the doubt.
We ordered a wine each and some food to go with it. The chef served the food directly from his station (a feet away from where we were sat) but no cutlery was provided. There was also no bread in sight and neither were we asked whether we wanted any. We had to ask for both. By now we were thoroughly disappointed with their attitude and lack of service of any kind. We finished our food (which was good) and drinks and asked for the bill to leave. By the time we actually left the restaurant 60% of the tables were still unoccupied! I can think of no other reason to be treated this way in a half empty restaurant with a prior reservation other than some sort of...
Read moreI rarely give a 5 star review, not because I am a snob , but to really highlight the truly incredible places. When my Belgian friend suggested this for a meet up spot, I thought "...ok!" , a little cautious but I trusted his local knowledge, and his local knowledge delivered. A pub-like set up downstairs that's the gateway to an intimate, yet comfortable, 50-something seater space. Looking around for a kitchen and all what I see is probably 15 sqm of cooking space, very efficiently spaced out. After a short deliberation we decide to go for the "Feed me" menu, priced then at 55€ a person. First dishes come out: local cheese, pickled veg and cauliflower, baked bread slices, and incredible roll of pastry with some exceptional ketchup. Second round comes with "risotto" , bastilla with chicken, courgette "pasta"... we thought that was it, THEN we get a beautifully cooked onion filled with an intentional medley of vegetables AND slow cooked beef with potatoes. Close was a beautiful fruit and gorgeous chocolate mousse lile dessert. The mocktail was fantastic and service team was so friendly and accommodating. So much genius from such a small kitchen. well done....
Read moreLovely Taste of Belgian Food The cafe is very pleasant situated upstairs above the bar which offers a great range of Belgian beers. A party of four we were greeted cheerfully at the top of the stairs and quickly shown to our table. There is no English language menu but our waitress Emma explained the menu and suggested to get a good experience of Belgian food to share plates. Starting with the Hummus, green coulis & hazelnuts which was moist. The Brussels cheese tartlet is to kill for, while the Traditional vol-au-vent with the morilles and sauce hollandaise was flavoursome. The Roasted sweet potato with smoked paprika added spice to our meal. We finish with the Beef cheek carbonnade à la Duvel which was so tender. With a bottle of red wine, two gin and tonics and a glass of Chardonnay the bill came to a very reasonable...
