First off, the rooms in this place are quite inviting. They're well appointed and look nice from the outset. Really clean, modern looking with a rustic edge. Spacious enough with a comfortable bed.
However on closer inspection it's really rough around the edges. From the really small, inconsequential stuff like paint over the tiles, and minimalist fittings means there's nowhere to put stuff, through to real deal-breakers. The bathroom doors are pretty but don't seal or block out noise so you hear everything. I mean, everything..
The TV didn't work (no channels and wouldn't connect to the wifi) which is kind of a blessing because there is ZERO noise suppression between rooms. The neighbour was listening to a news video at not a loud volume and it felt like he was in bed next to me. Crazy.
Also the shower flooded the bathroom floor every time we used it so we ended up having to build a dam of towels to stop it running into the room.
Maybe it's the first time the owners have had a hotel but I would not recommend staying here if you'd like a good night's sleep.
Breakfast is great though and staff friendly enough, though pretty disinterested in you or your comfort.
I'd have to say, pass on this...
Read moreHotel Big Sur was the perfect place to stay in Puerto Natales. We stayed here the night before we took the bus to Torres del Paine, and the night we returned from the multi-day hike, prior to our flight back to Santiago. The hotel is a small boutique hotel with small hostel-style rooms with limited accessories, but the rooms are clean and comfortable and have everything you need to rest up before and after your hike. The rooms do not have a TV, but who needs to watch TV when they could be out exploring the town? The hotel will gladly store your luggage while you hike, just keep in mind that this is stored in an open area, consider bringing a chain lock for all your bags if that concerns you - we did not have any concerns that anyone would take our bags. The hotel serves a hearty breakfast, including eggs and sausages. It is a short 2-block walk to the bars and restaurants of Puerto Natales. Most importantly, the staff is incredibly kind and helpful, and the main proprietor speaks excellent English. I have rarely experienced such excellent service or kind generosity at finer hotels in the US or Europe. We will recommend Hotel Big Sur to all our friends who travel to Patagonia, truly an...
Read moreI was booked in to this hotel as part of a package. It is very modern and clean. However it feels like being in prison. The building isn’t suitable as a hotel. There is no soundproofing. The rooms are cramped and lacking in any facilities. For example there is no fridge no kettle no cupboard to put your clothes. It’s Open Plan wet room style it looks like the water would come into the bedroom. for me, the worst part was that I could hear everything in the tiled floor corridor which was loud until late and next door room. Even them talking quietly. It looks like this building is constructed by someone who has no idea what the hotel needs.
The breakfast was fresh, but lacking in variety. The staff were lovely and helpful, but inexperienced in hotel work I believe.
This 3 night stay was an experience, but I don’t want to repeat it. In my ground floor room it’s like a basement with just 1 window at almost roof level.
Only one staff member was welcoming and helpful. RosinaI think was her name.
The place was clean, but tiled floor and very thin walls and thin doors with gaps...
