Our stay: July 15, 2023. The stay at Luciano K was okay, but we had hoped for more. We had planned our first day in Chile to spend the night in Santiago and Luciano K looked like a charming, vintage and great hotel for us.
Let’s kick off with the pros-
Our room was good size for two people, with plenty of space and a desk for writing. The hotel lobby and cafe were very charming with old architectural details and decor. The vintage cage elevator is exactly what you’d expect to see in this 1928 building which is still in operation. According to our online research, it was the first elevator in the City of Santiago, which is so impressive.
The staff was friendly and personable. On our check out day they arranged for an early 3.30am breakfast for us and transportation to the airport. Breakfast is included and it is delicious with lots of variety and items to choose from.
The location is great, right where much of the revolution and organizing happened in previous times. Also being located close to Barrio Lastarria, it made a nice walk to shops and metro.
Now for the cons-
We booked their pick-up transportation service from the airport to the hotel, but to our surprise upon arrival, we had to book our own cab from the airport as their driver never showed. After attempting to reach the hotel several times that morning, we were told the driver had something come up and we would be refunded our $45 for the service.
Our bathroom had loads of hair from previous guests everywhere which grossed us out and we spent the morning cleaning up in order for us to be able to use the shower. Once we had settled in, the cleaning crew was cleaning the room next door blasting music making it very hard to sleep and rest as we wanted. We also found a used bloody bandaid outside in the hallway which was disturbing.
On our walk around the neighborhood we witnessed a robbery on Avenida Estados Unidos, were a waitress was charging the guests and someone ran on the sidewalk and took their cellphone. Everyone came out of the neighboring restaurants and people chased the person who took the phone. Quite sad and eventful, but as a heads up with any major City, be careful with...
Read moreI wasn't impressed by this hotel unfortunately, though I was quite looking forward to the stay. The room seemed a bit worn - lose fixtures, a bed lamp that didn't work and was hanging lose from the wall, and I attached a photo of the bathtub. None of these things on their own made the room uncomfortable - the bed was actually quite large and comfy, and immaculate sheets and pillows. It just seemed a bit drab overall. The only windows were actually located in the bathroom, which was interesting. Make sure you remember to draw the curtains when you step out of the shower! 😅
Service was also decent, but could have used some improvement. I arrived with a couple big bags and some other items, and there was no offer from staff to help me with my bags, though there was ample staff on-hand. They did kindly store them on my final day, as my flight wasn't until the evening, and they were able to schedule a cab to the airport for me. Breakfast was good, and there is a nice common seating area on the first floor you can work from or just relax in.
The rooftop terrace was also a nice place for some small bites and drinks, but again, service was mediocre and seemed indifferent, even though it wasn't busy at all. Prices were average, and the drinks were quite good. Food was decent - nothing to write home about. Views were fabulous though, and I took many photos from here.
Overall, I wouldn't return to this hotel nor recommend it to anyone visiting Santiago unless you're on a budget, as it was well-priced for the location and amenities. It wasn't particularly bad, but just didn't meet expectations when there are some other great options to choose from...
Read moreWe had never been to Santiago so I tried to do my homework. I love architecture, especially older architecture, this place has great art deco style and a real feel of great design from the past, given it's name. Beautiful old tile and wood floors, wall moldings and skylights really grab your attention. I never use the elevators and in this hotel they have an old marble stairway you can take all the way to the rooftop patio, restaurant and pool area. The stairs wrap around an old metal cage elevator that works great as well, for the other guests : ) our room was in the 08 stack , 508 , it has a great view into the city life . Nothing extraordinary but good enough for me. Originally this hotel was the tallest building in Santiago, now it is dwarf by others. The bed was super comfortable, roof deck , great for cocktails, sunsets, splash in the " splash pool" not big but perfect size for a roof area. Breakfast was also very good, I got the breakfast included upgrade , it was worth not leaving the hotel. The location could not have been better. We walked everywhere within a few miles . Tons of restaurants all around, at night the Bellavistas neighborhood across the park comes alive with tons of restaurants and bars. I will definitely be returning to the...
