Hotel Nippon — Hotel in Santiago

It is shorter to recall the good points: (1) the location is good ! 15 minutes by foot from plaza de Armas and 5 minutes from the piato bellavista (2) the front desk personnel were very nice and helpful (3) the Wi-Fi internet was OK. Breakfast was reasonable. Other than those: the contact person didn't reply to my emails - only after I called she confirmed my visit, she "organized" a taxi from the airport at a cost of US$40 where this trip shouldn't cost more than US$15, the room was dark and dirty, there were no free electrical sockets for the electrical devices, the bed made terrible wooden noises when I turned in it, the shampoo and the paper roles in the bathroom were renewed only after I approached the front desk, the refrigerator and the safe are locked and one needs to deposit US$50 in order to use them, the room key (magnetic card) stop functioning 3 times and each time I had to go down to the front desk to fix it, the dirty curtain hardly covered the dirty window and its rails were loose, you could hear everything that happened in nearby rooms. Finally, the light in the bathroom stop functioning one morning and when I came back to the room after the cleaning lady was there it was still not functioning. I have no idea how she cleaned the dark bathroom (I wonder) and why she didn't inform the technical stuff. It is possible that I missed something but you get the idea. I for sure not planning to...

This hotel is in a handy location in downtown Santiago and has parking, though that is down a very tight descending spiral behind and underneath the hotel. It's not at all Japanese in approach so don't be fooled by the name.||||The room was comfortable if a bit dated, with an aircon blocking most of the window. Not too much outside noise. Staff were generally very helpful (for the important exception, see below).||||Breakfast was ok - about on a par with most South American places we've stayed.||||However, everything was spoiled for me by the manager's dishonesty. Hotel Nippon advertises a price "including taxes and fees" but Andreina refused to deduct the 19% IVA for foreign guests who have the correct (visa etc) paperwork. In Chile, the advertised price legally must include IVA and this should always be deducted for overseas guests, unless it is a very small/remote operation.||||Sadly, I can't recommend a property which behaves dishonestly like this, and does not correct their error when it is pointed out.||||By pocketing the 19% for themselves, they disadvantage international visitors - and also disadvantage their competition, who behave properly. This was the only accommodation I encountered in my recent trip Chile who kept the 19%, and they should not be supported.||||(From other reviews I have seen that some travellers have been able to get the IVA deducted - by insisting. Reserve este hotel principalmente por su ubicación, pero también porque aparentemente su relación precio-calidad sería beneficiosa, pero no quede conforme con el servicio.||En primera instancia me comunique vía correo electrónico dos semanas antes de mi estadía (había reservado 1 mes antes) para confirmar la reserva y quedarme tranquilo, ya que había utilizado una página para contratar el servicio y desde el hotel no se habían comunicado conmigo. Me respondieron luego del segundo intento confirmando la reserva y evacuando mis consultas, muy amables, pero yo necesitaba que me confirmen que la habitación triple que había reservado fuese igual al de la imagen de la página, me contestaron que las habitaciones tenían diferentes formas, pero que todas ofrecían las mismas comodidades y que lamentablemente las habitaciones se asignaban por orden de llegada así que no me aseguraban guardarme la misma que la de la fotografía.||Bueno, desde la llegada, floja la atención en la recepción, el empleado se notaba que era muy nuevo y no sabía varias cosas, dudó desde el horario del desayuno hasta otros detalles, para mi gusto se demoró demasiado la recepción. Primer punto a favor es que el hotel tiene estacionamiento propio, punto en contra es que aparentemente el estacionamiento también se alquila a personas que no se hospedan en el hotel, sufrí personalmente que me escribieran ofensas en mi auto por tener patente de otro país, un hecho lamentable que dejé pasar para no arruinar mi estadía.||Al llegar a la habitación la decepción fue grande, efectivamente como llegamos cerca de las 19 hs nos dieron la habitación "que quedaba" y sinceramente no cubría mis expectativas, la habitación es vieja (el hotel esta en remodelación y las fotos que muestran son de las habitaciones nuevas, no de las viejas que asignan de igual manera). En detalle, la mitad del techo de la habitación (piso 5) tiene una inclinación que es bastante desagradable, no se puede circular libremente; esta inclinación está hecha principalmente con una pared vidriada, la cual aseguro, no debe haber sido limpiada desde que se construyó el hotel, afeaba muchísimo la vista, el baño muy pequeño y antiguo, soy una persona de 1.87 mt y no entraba en la ducha, debía bañarme inclinado, éramos tres huéspedes y no había toallas de baño para los tres, tampoco jabones, debí reclamar en recepción para que me los suministraran. Único punto a favor es que la habitación cuenta con 2 camas matrimoniales y una cama de plaza y media, bastante confortables. Son pequeños detalles, pero que hacen a que uno forme una opinión favorable o no.||Pasemos al segundo día, el desayuno es muy básico, el pan no es rico (estaba seco), la fruta escasa, los jugos también feos, fiambre solo 2 tipos, 1 sola torta que no nos animamos a probar. Bajo nivel del desayuno.||Una cosa más negativa, al segundo día nos bloquearon la tarjeta de ingreso a la habitación, el motivo: creían que nos íbamos esa mañana, cuando en el ingreso realice el pago de la estadía completa de 2 noches.||El aseo se realizó muy tarde, cerca de las 17 hs, y en el mismo no controlaron si necesitábamos papel higiénico, también tuvimos que reclamar en recepción. El hotel tiene dos ascensores, solo funciona 1, es rápido, pero no es suficiente.||Bueno resumiendo, el descanso es aceptable, la higiene 5 puntos, desayuno flojo, recepción floja. En definitiva, no lo recomiendo, en mi próxima visita a Santiago buscare otra opción.||Para agregar un punto a favor, pero que no es mérito del hotel, está en una zona bastante linda, a 18 cuadras del corazón de Santiago, cerca de una avenida con varios locales para almorzar, es una zona residencial aparentemente muy segura, con muchos espacios...
