Having walked past this spot countless times, I finally had the chance to step in and give it a try. This restaurant is the sister brand of the renowned Chili Fagara, a household name in Central celebrated for its masterful Sichuan fusion cuisine over the years. With such a strong pedigree, my expectations were high, and I was eager to see how this sibling establishment measured up.
I visited after a gym class, drawn in by the restaurant’s simple yet inviting menu and the natural lighting that floods the space, creating a warm and relaxed ambiance. The menu, while concise, offers quality options, though I found the pricing slightly steep considering its Sheung Wan location. That said, the overall food quality didn’t disappoint, and a few standout elements made the visit worthwhile.
One slight letdown was the water policy—they don’t serve cold tap water, and when we asked, the servers politely informed us that only bottled water was available for purchase. While this is understandable for some fine-dining restaurants, it felt a bit inconvenient for a casual lunch visit. Buying a full bottle of water when you’re just stopping in for a quick bite seemed unnecessary.
Now, onto the star of the show—the pho and its broth. The flavors were rich, well-balanced, and simply delightful, making it clear that the kitchen takes its craft seriously. For those seeking a lighter or more budget-friendly option, the restaurant also offers an attractive tea set menu, which provides great value without compromising on quality.
In summary, while there were minor hiccups, this sister brand to Chili Fagara delivers solid offerings with a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. It's a promising spot for those looking to explore a different side of Sichuan-inspired cuisine in Sheung Wan. Perfect for a post-gym meal or a casual lunch outing—just be prepared for a slightly higher...

First up, the baked oysters– so plump and cooked just right, not overdone at all. The crispy topping had this amazing scallion oil aroma that took it to another level. Seriously good!
Then came the coconut chicken soup - I was expecting the typical SE Asian-style coconut milk soup, but nope—this was more like a rich Chinese broth, packed with red dates and goji berries. The coconut taste was very fresh.
The real MVP was Uncle Andy, our server for the night. He explained every dish with so much passion. He recommended the "fake" pizza - a Northern Vietnamese specialty with a crispy rice paper base topped with spicy beef. Normally, I’m not big on pizzas, but I almost demolished this whole thing by myself.
Dessert was another highlight!! The French-style apple tart had thinly sliced apples (not too sweet), and Andy suggested swapping the vanilla ice cream for their house-made coconut ice cream - real coconut flavour, none of that artificial stuff. Just when I thought it couldn’t get better, Andy surprised us with a Vietnamese tea panna cotta (which the chef hadn’t made in a while because he’d been too busy). The tea flavour was so fragrant, and the silky smooth texture was impressive, too!
The whole place just had so much heart. By halfway through the meal, I was already planning which friends to drag...
Read moreDining at MamAmis was an unforgettable experience that truly lived up to its Michelin star status! My partner and I visited for dinner, and from the moment we arrived, we were greeted with friendly and accommodating service. The staff made us feel welcome and were happy to guide us through the menu.
We decided to try the curry chicken and the Vietnamese pizza, both of which were nothing short of extraordinary. The curry chicken was rich and flavorful, bursting with authentic Vietnamese spices that made each bite delightful. The Vietnamese pizza, served on a paper-thin crust, was a unique twist that we absolutely loved—it was crispy, loaded with fresh ingredients, and incredibly tasty.
The atmosphere at MamAmis was lively, with upbeat music and humorous conversations echoing throughout the spacious restaurant. It created a fun and vibrant dining environment that enhanced our evening.
While the prices are on the much higher side for Vietnamese food, the quality and deliciousness of every dish made it well worth it. MamAmis is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to indulge in gourmet Vietnamese cuisine in a lively setting. We left with full bellies and happy hearts, already planning our next visit! Highly...
