There is something special about this restaurant that no other restaurant in Hong Kong can replace. It is the atmosphere that makes you feel like you are back in the 80's and the foods are still in the 80's that you may crave if you were grown up in the 70/80's or want to experience that kind of atmosphere. The traditional foods are so tasty. It is more of a deep feeling that makes you happy when you see these foods that you remember eating when you were a kid. The food quality is very good too. Pricing is a little pricey but you are paying for the traditional food, service, atmosphere no other restaurant can replace. This was on my wish list restaurant to visit while hearing about this restaurant it used to be 5 star restaurant for the rich. But now as time passed by, there are many other restaurants opened up that are 5 star that are super expensive. This is more like an upscaled cha chan ting with a retro twist that makes it so special and a tourist attraction. I will be returning during my next visit. There soufflé that is limited quantities (better you call in to reserve) is HUGE but SO fluffy and good and fresh out of the oven no other restaurant can replace. The sizzling steak that comes out on the hot plate, with feelings of hype and Stir fry beef noodle, and old style soda with a cherry! All these are very exciting to see and taste! Especially if you were born in the 70s/80s. Will be back for more! I have so much I want to eat when I come here. Oh and the big prawn salad with fruit (old style)... Russian la borsch soup, roasted pigeon, ox tongue spaghetti... Swiss chicken wings... ok getting really hungry! and its too far away (I'm in Vancouver now). On my return list during next...
Read moreInteresting restaurant with a small entrance with stairs that lead you to the first floor restaurant. The restaurant is steeped in history. On the wall downstairs are black and white pictures of each of their branches with history about each one and when it opened.
The restaurant is quaint and reminds me of olden day tv shows (before my time). It is not old, it is nicely decorated but dated (in a good way like a museum). The way the waiter dresses, then blend in nicely. The service is ok, not that attentive. You may have to make a few attempts to get the waiter’s attention before they notice you.
Another thing to note is that the toilet is downstairs and you need to inform them to unlock it (from upstairs) before you go down or you will need to walk up the stairs again to get them to unlock the door.
Food was quite nice. We went there for one of their speciality, the boiled ox tongue. Sounds gross but it is well cooked and if you can get over what it is, it tastes surprisingly nice. The ox tongue spaghetti in tomato sauce is very nice also as is their curry. The soufflé is another speciality and is cooked to order so there is a 30 minute wait from the time of ordering but it is worth the wait. It is a nice experience and I...
Read moreThis is nostalgic. I visit this restaurant everytime at least once when I'm in Hong Kong. There's something about this place that's different to all the other modern or hip or minimalist style restaurants. It's decked out resembling 60's 70's decor like you've just walked back in time. Service is usually very good and staff are attentive. Food is very delicious and they've tailored some comfort western dishes to the next level to suit the HK'gers taste buds. I think you've got to go and try and make up your minds. Their 'fried beef rice noodles' is famous. They've also adapted this dish with 'Swiss sauce' version; which is probably a bit on the...
