Surprising that this place gets so many stars from people, I would say that this says something surprisingly about Hong Kong, if anything. I would say that this is a 3 star place, but the service here is lacking. The rooms, I think/feel, are clean, nobody really cares about your well being, and service here works to the Hotel's benefit over yours. My examples:
The room:
Extremely small, and compared to places like Japan, which also has small hotel rooms, this does not feel of the 3.whatever quality that they are ranked.
Let's start with the restroom, with the overflowing shower stall. It's already small to begin with, adding that the water doesn't drain appropriately, and can flood the bathroom if you are not paying attention to the levels was a pain. Furthermore, the cleaning service forgot to replace the towels that they took out during the cleaning, meaning, we had to wait for towels to take a shower that night. I'll get to the service in a moment about the towels, but let's move on. The beds, which I will warn you are typically stiffer in Asia, were downright hard. The joke my sister and I would consistently tell, is that there was a box spring, and they forgot the mattress.
To finish up the room, let's just go into details of the room. You open the door, immediately to your right behind the door you just opened is the sink on top of a refrigerator, you have the light switches on the adjacent wall that lead to the door for the toilet/shower area. Then comes the bed area. Two single beds pressed up against each other and (looking at the mattresses) a nightstand (with TV remote light, safe, and hairdryer) on the left and a window sill on the right (with your phone and complimentary coffee, tea, water, & water heater). On the wall opposite of the beds is the TV. There was a sign somewhere that said to please put your suitcases under the bed. That's the room in a nutshell, which it could probably fit in.
Let's talk about the service:
Perhaps it was an honest mistake , about the towels mentioned earlier, therefore, we went to the 1st/grnd floor and asked for a set of towels. The staff fearing that we are going to steal the towels, they asked us for our room number & would deliver the towels. Maybe, I'm just being picky, but if I'm standing at the desk, I expect to get what I'm asking for and not having to get into the elevator to go back to my room and wait for towels. It's a 3.something hotel, they can afford to lose towels, if someone is stealing them at all... Moreover it happened again for batteries to the TV remote, and we learned to just call for service when we needed it.
Which we did when we ordered a bit too much at a restaurant and had leftovers to reheat. They told us to go to the restaurant & use their microwave. We went to the restaurant on the 2nd floor, walked in, found an employee and asked to borrow their microwave, or we could do it ourselves. The employee said, "There's a charge to using our microwave."
Somewhat shocked, but not really, I mean come on, it's Asia, we just agreed and had them microwave the food. When the lady came back with the food, I asked for the price, and the lady responded with, "No cost, I was just hoping you guys wouldn't want me to microwave the food for you."
Seriously? Took off a star for that one. Even if your place sucks, it's ok as long as the service pulls you through; is typically my thought, but if your place sucks & your service sucks, why would I ever want to stay there?
If you are wondering, why not just one star, it is because the hotel wasn't horrible, just not great... not even good. Just decent enough for the price to put your head down at. If told that I was going to stay here again, I would ask if there was anywhere else around that I could stay at 1st.
That being said, I would recommend that you don't stay at this place, unless it is already included in your tour, or it's a package deal that you can't change. Mind you if it just cost you a couple 100 US$ to change, I would tell you to do so if you are staying there for more...
Read moreThe room is really small and dated. The sink is separate from the toilet. Booked a double bed room but was told that they do not have any rooms left and gave us a twin room and will help to move the two beds together. Each of us have a 20inch luggage and we barely have enough place to open the luggage. The slippers provided were so thin they broke when they got wet. Bed sheets with stain and hairs, no additional pillows provided. Shower area was really small that when you closed the curtain, it will kept stick to you skin during your shower, and water kept going out to the toilet area making the whole bathroom wet. The shampoo provided has a strong odour, the conditioner is not like the usual conditioner, the shower gel is still acceptable. No place except for the rack above the toilet that we can hang our clothes, just a few hooks at the corner of the bedroom. Hairdryer is provided. We were travelling for 10 days but we will be visiting Macau for a night so we had two bookings. For the first booking, we saw a cockroach on the 2nd night, so when we check in on our 2nd booking, I informed the receptionist that we do not want the same floor (23th floor) and was given another floor, and was finally given a double bed room.Double bedroom is the same size as the twin bedroom, there's a really small bathtub and it helped with the curtain as it did not stick to my skin during my shower. And the sink is placed inside the bathroom, and there's a steel with hangers at the area which was originally the sink area for twin bedroom. This bedroom layout is way much better although the room is small. The hotel is really near to Tsim Sha Tsui, walking distance, but was really hot in the Summer. There's a miniso just around the metro station. And also walking distance to my favourite dessert milk pudding at Australia Dairy Co.A thing to note, I called to ask if we could leave our luggage at the hotel overnight because we will be coming back from Macau to stay for another 4 nights, they said we could but never mentioned any charges. I thought it would be free as we are returning customers but when we were there in the concierge to place the luggage, we were told that we have to pay HKD20 per piece for overnight, I told the staff we called but did not mention anything that we have to pay, he said there will be no charges for luggage that will be collected on the same day but there will be charges for luggage for overnight.Overall, if you're just looking for a place to stay for the night, then go for it. If you're looking for a better room environment, I would suggest...
Read moreI contemplated giving a 1 star review but decided to give a more objective rating. We stayed 2 weeks from the end of June to early/mid July.
The main concern was the bed bugs. I checked the reviews after we changed the room (because I couldn't sleep) and found that another customers left a review about finding bed bugs a month before my stay.
I didn't inspect the room because I have stayed in many places when I travelled and never had issues. On the first few nights, I woke up with no less than 5 bite marks each morning. On the next few nights, I woke up with increasingly more bite marks each morning. Some were scattered and there were two circles/triangles made with about 5-6 bite marks. Possibly because the sheets haven't been changed in the many nights we have already stayed there.
Given that it's summer in HK, I wore strong layer of insect repellent every day and there were no new bite marks during the day.
After 8 nights of the same, I discussed with my mum about the possibility of bed bugs. With our limited knowledge, she suggested that bed bugs would bite in a line. The next morning, I woke up with a line of bite marks on one of my legs, in addition to many random ones on my other leg. We spoke with our relative that day who suggested us to ask for a room change.
The staff obviously denied having bed bugs but agreed to a room change. Not to mention the hassle of changing room, I couldn't sleep the first night in the new room, worrying that there would be bed bugs and waking up in the middle of the night because it was very itchy (despite applying the Japanese meds for bites). I did research on bed bugs and counted the number of bites on my legs (there were some on my forearms and some on my mum but I was too tired to bother), I gave up when I counted up to 38 (also because my body couldn't turn for me to count the back of my legs).
The next day they reassured us that they checked the room and there was no bed bugs. But given the marks, and the massive research that I did on the sleepless night, and that there were no more new marks after the room change...you can decide for yourself.
The room was probably a good size for its price and location and the country it is in. The location is relatively convenient. I would suggest checking for bed bugs before entering the room with luggage if you are...
