Disappointing Stay — All Talk, No Service
We had high hopes when we arrived at Wake Bio Hotel. Nelson was warm and welcoming, and the communication (both in person and via WhatsApp) sounded professional and reassuring. But unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the promises.
From the very first day, we noticed that actions didn’t match the words. We returned to our room to find it hadn’t been cleaned. When we asked at reception, we were told this was actually an Airbnb — even though we booked directly through the hotel's own website. We were then told housekeeping would cost an extra \
25, on top of the nearly \\
300 per night we were already paying. If this is an Airbnb, don’t advertise yourself as a hotel — and certainly not a “Bio Hotel” if you’re not offering hotel-level service. On the second day, the room still wasn’t cleaned. Staff said they had "no availability" but would send towels and sheets. Those never came. Only after a second request did a clearly frustrated employee finally bring them.
The night before our departure, we needed to print some important documents. Reception told us the printer would be available at 8 AM. The next morning, we were told there was no printer, and because it was a holiday, we’d have to wait until the next day — even though we had a flight to catch. No one took responsibility or made any effort to resolve the issue.
We also asked for matches and a lighter, which they initially said they’d send — then later told us they couldn’t because they didn’t have any. Again, no solutions or alternatives offered.
To top it all off, when we asked for a taxi to the airport, they quoted 300,000 pesos — nearly double the price of the same ride on Uber (169,000 pesos). It felt like they were trying to upsell us simply because we were tourists.
On the positive side, the rooms themselves are nice, and the massage service was excellent. But the overall service is essentially non-existent. They rely heavily on polished messaging and AI-generated responses to create a sense of attentiveness, but there’s no real action or follow-through.
If you’re looking for a place with actual hospitality, this isn’t it. If you just want a decent room and don’t care about service, it might work for you. But don’t be fooled by the name or the presentation — this is not a...
Read moreGuest Experience Feedback – Wake Hotel (July 8–9)
I stayed at the Wake Hotel from July 8 to July 9 in a spacious two-bedroom apartment designed to accommodate 4 registered guest. Despite this, I was told I could not have any additional guests—even for a short visit. When I attempted to have just two visitors (not overnight guests), I had to go back and forth with hotel staff and management just to get them approved. All guests were adults with valid ID.
The visitation policies were completely unreasonable, especially considering the size of the apartment. It felt like the rules were being made up on the spot. I followed the stated guidelines, identifying my guests as requested, yet I was still met with unnecessary resistance. These types of restrictions do not feel realistic or fair to guests staying in large, multi-room accommodations.
Additionally, while taking photos near the pool and in the gym—after informing staff in advance—I was approached and harassed by hotel security in a disrespectful manner. When I brought the issue to the front desk, I was told that taking photos with an iPhone was acceptable, but using a camera was not. No signage communicated this policy, and it directly contradicted what I had been told during a previous stay—that photography was allowed as long as the hotel’s branding was not shown. The inconsistency in rules and how they are enforced made the stay uncomfortable and confusing.
To make matters worse, I left a bag at reception that contained a small DJI Osmo 4 camera. While the bag was recovered, the camera was missing, and no real follow-up or resolution was provided.
Lastly, the apartment stove was set to shut off automatically after 30 minutes, making it difficult to cook anything that required longer preparation—an inconvenient feature for a unit with a full kitchen.
Overall Summary: Although the property is visually impressive, the experience was frustrating due to unrealistic and inconsistently enforced policies. The lack of clarity and hospitality made the stay uncomfortable, and I will not consider returning without a clear and reasonable explanation of guest rights, visitation policies, and...
Read moreYou can check pretty much every travel website and see the front desk is the worst in Colombia. We had a girl named Cristina who was more a prison guard than a host. She texted us at 9:30 on the day of checkout that there is a 15%-30% charge for check out after 11am. The 15% of the cost of the room starts at 11:15am (YIKES). Yes, they informed us of the checkout time is 11am, but you never get told about this crazy sliding fee until the day you leave. It goes up to 40% of the cost of your night stay.||||Cristina then texted me we could stay until 12pm "at no extra charge". When we came down at 11:55am she then proceeded to pretend the message happened. We were astounded. When we showed her the text she sent earlier she suddenly didnt understand english and told us in spanish "oh well, the system automatically does it". Then she asked for my card swipe and signature. The people at Wake have no idea how little they sound and look to travelers. My guess is this is an intentional revenue raiser but it wont last as the reviews continue to mention the same front desk problems and sneaky billing practices.||||As for condition, we rented the penthouse and boy were we surprised when the wifi wasnt working. Multiple guys had to come up and we had the usual "oh its fixed" but no it was not. They eventually got it working about 2 hrs later. That sexy infinity hottub has no working lights. The private jacuzzi did not function at all. Bugs in one of the beds, our son got a line of bug bites. I didnt realize it was the bed there until I saw other reviews mention the same problem and same fotos.||||Overall, super disappointing for the price and then you have to deal with silly Cristina and the rest of the clowns at the front desk. I am fluent in spanish and my wife is from Medellin. We have never seen such an intentional lack of professionalism and hospitality ever in...
