I absolutely loved my stay in Las Camelias, having stumbled upon it quite by chance. It is a small family run finca (farm) a few minutes walk outside Salento, and offers simple, comfortable accommodation in the form of dorms, private rooms, or tents (aka glamping). The owner is really hospitable and friendly, and made me feel at home and part of the family from the very beginning (of course it probably helped that I can speak Spanish!). She prepares a simple, fresh and tasty breakfast of omelette, fruit, bread and coffee in the morning. I really feel like she makes a lot of effort to make her hostel a great place to stay, creating a genuine and down-to-earth environment. You are surrounded by nature (horses, cows, ducks and fireflies, not to mention beautiful views of the countryside) and it is the perfect environment to relax for a few days, with the advantage of being a quick walk into town. I don’t usually bother to write reviews for hostels but I really wanted to for Las Camelias as I feel a lot of gratitude; I wish the owner every success for...

We saw fireflies and the lady the reception was delightful despite our poor Spanish.. 😢: The walk to the hostel from town is not for the weak and the area feels less safe than the rest of town (don’t bring grandma). The cabin we stayed in looked great in pictures, however in person, there was a lot left to be desired. The shed wasn’t airtight with gaps between windows and a hole in the door meaning bugs could get in at night. The bathroom arrangements at this hostel were weird- most appeared to be shut behind lock and key, much to the dismay of the guests. They opened this for us as a “private bathroom” which made us a target amongst the other travellers, who used it freely...
Read moreJust a little out of the hustle and bustle, but only a 5 minute walk to the main plaza, this gem is beautifully located within nature, surrounded by the mountains, so you'll have an amazing view. Cows, goats, chickens roam around freely, so you might have breakfast next to a chewing cow, absolutely amazing. The ladies Angela and Valentina are the sweetest, they cook you breakfast every day (eggs, fruit and bread) and keep the place very clean. All around the house are chairs, sofas or hammocks to relax, you can make a bonfire and the wifi is pretty good.||||Only downside is the shower, it's not always hot and IF it's hot, you'll only have a little stream of water. Especially when it's cold and you come back after a long hike, you can use a...
