Set your expectations very low for this place. Based on the reviews I’ve seen it seems like the rooms have a 50/50 shot on being either amazing or absolutely horrible. We took a shuttle bus from La Fortuna to Quepos and the driver seemed familiar with everyone else’s hotel accommodations but ours. This should have been our first sign that this hotel is unpopular & we didn’t do enough research. The location of the property is not ideal and is tucked away in Quepos. Once we arrived, we went to the front desk but it was locked. We then found a sign that the reception desk was at the bar…which was kind of odd. There’s zero smoking on the property unless you want to hike up to a terrace area far away from your room. The staff working there were all very nice and generous, however they seemed exhausted and drained from the heat/walking. We sat by the pool and waited until our room was ready. The pool was beautiful but empty. Another sign this may have been the wrong stay for us. We booked this hotel through AirBnb. The host was completely unresponsive & we only received automated messages from them, which makes me assume that this was the hotel owners way to rent out these rooms that are completely inaccessible for even healthy 20 year olds. On the listing it mentions a long walk to the entrance of the apartment. Boy oh boy was that an understatement. This hike was an excruciating walk up a steep incline with NO STEPS. I’m not kidding, my knees were touching the pavement. It looked like maybe it was built for a car to get up the mountain at one point, but the concrete had degraded so much so that it’s a hazard. The owners really should invest in fixing this because we fell multiple times and it was almost impossible to get up there with our luggage. Once we entered, the employee guiding us was completely out of breath and needed to sit down to rest. The apartment didn’t look like it had been cleaned much since the last stay with bugs, coffee stains, debris all over the apartment. The AC didn’t work and there were openings in the windows for bugs to get in. Photos attached. We immediately left after finding another accommodation in Manuel Antonio and reported this to AirBNB. Proceed with caution & do not stay here if you’d like a relaxing stay.

Ugh! Where to begin?! Yes, you see wild life. No, it isn't worth the price. This was our second location in Costa Rica and it let us down. Hotel is very tucked in. They have parking but not designated and very small. First night they made us moved the car closer to the gate to prioritize parking for restaurant visitors. To get to our room (11-tree top canopy) we had to do an uphill hike and what a hike. No joke, I wanted to turn around and fly back home. Details of the hike are not shared in the description of the room and after exploring a city for a day the last thing I want is to hike uphill to my room to get some rest. The room had a musty smell and the holes in the bed were so obvious (definitely needs a new mattress). The bathroom is decently big but the toilet is stained (needs a new one). Poor water pressure. Tiles are broken and needs a desperate paint job. Did not feel like a boutique hotel to us. They do not have the option to let you choose if you want housekeeping or not! I personally like to know when someone will be in the room so it was a surprise to me when I walked in and saw the bed made. Restaurant offers "room service" but we messaged them to order a pizza deliver to our room and we were left on read. For breakfast, we choose 7:30am as our time slot. We got there and tables were almost full with other guest but no food in front of them. Service was very slow. We were supposed to stay four nights but left after the third. We let them know about the bed and they added a padding but didn't make a difference. We did not get an apology for that. Our first location was in La Fortuna and the hotel was cheaper which is why our disappointment with this place. Specifically for owner/staff: -New mattress for room 11(tree top canopy) is much needed and could use a new toilet. -When offering room service please reply to the WhatsApp messages or remove it from your contact info. *Lastly, DO NOT REPLY to my review unless you are willing to refund us for the last night we didn't stay. I do not need nor want excuses, they won't do anything for me now. Thank you for reading!

Outstanding Service From the moment we arrived (checking in around 8pm due to a late excursion) it was glaringly apparent that the service at this hotel was incredible. Dallas was amazing our entire stay! We were first shown a map of Quepos where he gave us a comprehensive review of the whole city and his favorite spots and places to avoid. When we mentioned we wanted to go rafting the night prior, he immediately booked it and had us picked up from the hotel at 8:15 the next morning. The drinks are phenomenal (best Margarita in CR) and the pool is also amazing. Overall we did not see many other guests around the property which made our stay feel private and romantic. They ask for you to reserve a time for the complimentary breakfast which in our experience was fast and very fresh. The pancakes are amazing and the traditional CR breakfast was also great. Property/Stay The wildlife is incredible as in our 3 day stay we saw 10-15 Scarlet Macaws flying every morning, deer and at least 10 squirrel monkeys making their way through the resort. There’s also a toucan nest that we didn’t get the chance to see due to our busy schedule. We were able to see all of this due to the staff’s extensive knowledge of nearby wildlife. We stayed in the Treetop Canopy room 12. I can not believe to see so many negative reviews… believe it or not…. the TREETOP room is, well, in the treetops!!! Yes, it is a hike. Wear grippy shoes and use the railing. Or, there are many other beautiful private rooms to choose from. The hike up the hill each night couldn’t have been more worth it as the morning views of the canopy from our lovely balcony with the many wildlife sightings was magical. The room itself was clean, fresh, the AC worked and the bed was comfy. The staff and overall atmosphere made us truly feel at home here! We will definitely be staying here again next time we visit C. R. Dallas and the entire staff went above and beyond and made our trip so special, so an extra thanks to you guys for making our vacation as memorable as it was! Pura Vida

I was disappointed that we spent money to stay here. Please be cautious booking the Garden View Condo if you have any respiratory problems like asthma, etc. Hotel itself-The hotel itself is a short drive up a hill. It’s about a 5 minute drive to the main area of things to do in Quepos, although you could walk to Quepos if you did not have a car. It’s about a 10-20 minute drive to Manuel Antonio (depending on where). Parking at the hotel was free. The hotel felt pretty safe. 5/5 for friendliness of staff as they were extremely friendly and helpful providing recommendations on things to do and which beaches were best to visit. On check-in we were told that the earliest breakfast time available was 8:00am. We wake up quite early and were out of the hotel by 7 at the latest each day so ended up just eating elsewhere as we didn’t want to delay exploring the town. It was a bit frustrating that the “early breakfast times were taken” as the hotel seemed quite empty during our stay and we were disappointed that we couldn’t take advantage of the included breakfast. We did not eat any meals at the hotel so I can not speak to the food. The hotel does offer 2 for 1 happy hour daily which we did take advantage of one day and the mojitos were pretty good. The pool was somewhat green and cloudy. I did not feel comfortable going in. We did see some macaws from the hotel. The room-We stayed in the Garden View Condo. There was a little table and chair set outside of the room. The living area of the unit was quite spacious with a small sitting area as well as a dining table and chairs. We did not use any of the kitchen stuff but the unit appeared to have cookware, plates, cups, silverware, etc. as well as a fridge/freezer combo, microwave, and a stove. The bathroom was also very spacious. No toiletries other than soap were included. The toilet seat was falling off. I tightened it the first day there but it was already loose again by the second day so I didn’t bother trying to fix it again. The bedroom was sufficient with a large, yet uncomfortable, king bed. I am not sure when this unit had last been used but it smelled extremely musty. All of the bedding and cushions in the room felt damp. I found mold on one of the dining chairs. They had placed a portable air filter in the room which had helped slightly by the time we checked out. I was also surprised to find that the AC was only in the bedroom. We were told that it would work to cool the entire condo but it did not. We abandoned the dream of a fully air conditioned space and decided to focus our attempts on keeping cool while sleeping. We had to move the furniture in the bedroom to be able to shut the bedroom door so that we could keep the AC confined to that space while we were sleeping. We tried to spend as little time as possible...

My partner and I just returned from 7 days in Costa Rica and we stayed at this property for our entire trip. The location is great, it’s tucked up on a hill right at the end of the main road of Quepos and at the bottom of the road that takes you into Manuel Antonio. We loved the location as it was beautiful and tranquil but super close to the action if you wanted some. It is an easy 10 minute walk to Quepos and you can find lots of restaurants and shops there. The marina at the end of the road is also a great place for food and shops.

The hotel itself has a nice layout for both privacy and for gathering and hanging out with other guests. The pool area was really the heart of the property and we spent lots of time there getting to know other guests and making friends. The space was very conducive to socializing but each suite was completely private.

There are a few pairs of beautiful macaws that live on the property and it was amazing to see them fly around in tandem. There are two dogs that live on the property too and they were sweet, friendly and awesome to hang out with.

The family that owns and runs the place are awesome. It really does have that family vibe, almost like you’re visiting an aunt and uncle in paradise. Dylan and Brandon (the sons of the owners) are taking over the day to day operations and they are both very helpful, kind and friendly. Need aloe because you forgot to bring it? Need dominos for a game with your newfound friends? Need groceries in your suite? They will happily accommodate your requests! Gary and Catalina took the time to meet and get to know the guests and they too were so kind and helpful.

The breakfast service was amazing and we had excellent meals every morning. The coconut banana pancakes were a real hit as was the French toast. We left breakfast full every day to enjoy the many excursions available in the area! We loved the catamaran sunset tour, the night jungle tour and our time in Manuel Antonio with a guide.

During our stay they had some staffing shortage issues so sometimes the dinner services were challenged but there are lots of local spots within walking distance to find a great mea if you are inclined. I know the owners are working hard to resolve their staffing shortage so I’m sure it is very temporary.

This place is not an all inclusive but (some options of) breakfast is included. We veered away from the included breakfast items most days, had drinks from the bar, and ate from the restaurant for several other small meals/snacks and the our bill at check out was very reasonable.

To summarize; private and spacious comfortable rooms with great AC, beautiful property, lovely family and the chance to meet new friends makes this an overall 5 star experience for us and we can’t...

We (my partner and I) had just returned in the wee hours of the morning and we’re still heavy with vacation afterglow so a sleep was needed for an attempt at being impartial. Now that I’m awake and caffeinated….

We had decided to spend our entire week at Las Cascadas. Knowing that it was not an all inclusive, we came at it with a, “use where we’re staying as a headquarters only” approach, figuring we’d spend far more time off the hotel grounds, exploring what Quepos and Manuel Antonio had to offer but ended up spending far more time on the hotel grounds than we had anticipated just because of how much we’d enjoyed being there.

I will say, if a typical all inclusive resort vibe or a big party vibe are your goal(s) of a vacation, this might not be the best fit for your needs. It is not a place to go if you’re expecting immaculate catering at the snap of your fingers or partying into the wee hours of the morning at an on-site discotheque. The vibe is more designed for laidback socializing, relaxation and tranquility.

Each suite is its own unit, lending well to having your own private space while the hotel grounds are designed to encourage social interaction between guests. My partner and I are somewhat private (more like shy, but okay, let’s go with private) people and each night was spent having fun and friendly conversation with other guests from all over the world, and even the owner and his family!

More often than not, the chats went beyond idle pleasantries. It was genuinely friendly conversation. We even made great friends from Oregon that we will be keeping in touch with. A total first for us! This was all made possible by the design of the hotel and the very unique energy about it; all provided by the friendly and down to earth owners, Gary, Catalina, and their sons, Dylan and Brandon, who are currently learning how to run the resort.

Admittedly, there were a couple of minor hiccups with a couple of general accommodations, but we came to learn that a few of the integral staff positions were changing hands during our stay, which made the quality of service slightly decline in a couple of areas. These were very minor and not significant enough to negatively affect the overall quality of the vacation because at the end of the day, a vacation is not only about relaxing somewhere tropical, but it’s about the memories being made and this was by far the most unforgettable 7 days we’ve ever had the privilege of being part of.

I would return to this hotel without any hesitation. Thank you Gary, Catalina, Dylan, Brandon, and all of the staff at Las Cascadas. You guys create memories for a living and are exceptional...
