My husband and I stayed for 7 nights at Ostende Spa Hotel in Karlovy Vary, starting December 5. We had enough time to receive close and objective impression of the hotel and its staff. |Staff - The staff is friendly, polite and extremely professional. One can communicate at the reception desk or the restaurant in Czech, Russian or English. If necessary, German can be used too. |Rooms – We got a very spacious, nice and comfortable room with a fantastic riverside view. The room as well as the whole hotel was kept very clean. During our stay we could see sunny, rainy and snowy Karlovy Vary and the view out of the windows of our hotel room was really gorgeous. The hotel provides free wi-fi with very fast internet connection. Also you should not miss their famous SPA&Clinic.|Location - The hotel is located in the center of the town. Everything is in walking distance. Across from the hotel on the other side of the river is the newly opened town museum where we were able to hear about the history and nature of Karlovy Vary thanks to the very well organized museum expositions. A few minute walk from the hotel takes you to the funicular which goes to the Watching Tower Diana every 15 minutes. The Jan Becher Museum (the famous liquor “Becherovka”) could be reached on foot within 30 minute walk. The colonnades with hot salty mineral water, proved to be very healing, are also not far from the hotel. The Wax Figure House is close too but this museum didn’t impress us much.|Food – The meals were our very pleasant surprise. The breakfast was the standard buffet type, but for lunch and supper we were offered to choose between five different menus and order our meals for the next day. This not only made us feel sure the food was freshly cooked for the day, but made us feel special because the food was specially cooked for us. Most of the food is organic, bought from local farms. Several kinds of extremely delicious fresh salads were additional to the lunch and supper meals. Free soup was offered at every lunch and at least 7 kinds of fresh fruits were offered during all meals. Free mineral water, juice and coffee were provided at all meals and as tea drinkers, we enjoyed more than ten kinds of tea, also offered for free at all meals.|We highly recommend Spa Hotel Ostende in Karlovy Vary for your vacation!|Milcho and Mariana Stoimenovi...
Read moreMy wife and I took our Russian mother on vacation in Karlovy Vary in 2019. It is rare that an American gets to experience a traditional Russian sanitorium unless they speak Russian or travel with somebody who does. Hotel Ostenda occupies probably the most historic building I have ever stayed in as it was constructed in the the 1750s. The building is located two doors down from the Hotel Pupp (location for The Last Holiday). Our rooms were a bit dated but very clean and very comfortable. The food is home-cooked; Russian style; of very high quality and delicious. I was hoping to lose a few pounds during my stay but I am afraid I went the other direction. Why I give Ostenda five stars is the staff. They were all wonderful and extremely patient and accommodating of my Non-Russian speaking status. Without exception the staff was extremely helpful and responsive to our needs. We especially loved working with Monika and Valeriy. They are both great practitioners and very hospitable. Monika taught me about the virtues of Becherovka and Valeiry actually met us for an outing and introduced us to Loket Castle. The accommodations at Hotel Ostenda delivered the greatest value for the money that we have ever had in our travels. Sorry it has taken so long to review our experience. We hope you are all prosperous and healthy. Blessings ~ ...
Read moreThe hotel is in an excellent position overlooking the river and with views of the Grand Hotel Pupp. Our room was large, to a high standard, with a good seating area and a work space having good WiFi connection. Breakfast was refreshing and generous buffet style, catering for various tastes and in general with other meals food was locally sourced where possible, we had an excellent evening meal The owner and staff were friendly, always smiling and helpful. The hotel provides a full range of spa facilities for which Karlovy Vary is famous. Karlovy Vary is a beautiful spa resort nestled in a valley which only highlights its architecture and character. So peaceful and relaxing, an incredible place to unwind but for those wanting more there are lovely walks, cycle routes and local sightseeing.||We traveled on the Student Agency Bus from Prague, an excellent service taking a little over 2 hours from the centre of Prague (can also be boarded at Prague Airport) - good vale at 160Kc each for one way (about £5). It was very comfortable and a film was shown for passengers, but we did not understand as it...
