I've stayed in ten Andaz in the past year and while this property was quite nice in many respects, I felt it didn't come close to the amenities provided by every other Andaz I've stayed. And at this price point, I feel they should be going above and beyond, which they didn't.
Examples include a tiny gym with a broken sauna. Its December, its freezing, get your sauna fixed! The size of the gym and limited equipment (although new and quality) couldn't possibly provide a full workout. No pool or jacuzzi? Not even a small one?
The breakfast was tasty but the buffet options were limited. And was the same every day of my stay.
I stayed in their high category King room and it didn't include a bathtub. For 1000 euro a night.. no tube just a shower. The bathroom felt claustrophobic. The design of the space feels off.
The location is decent but still requires 10-15 minute walk to the more popular areas. But still within five minutes are some nice areas to visit.
Andaz usually includes a stocked minibar that's complimentarily refreshed every day. For this property it means a few bottles of juice and.. that's it. Are you telling me you cannot include some actual locally produced fruit, nuts, chocolates, chips as ALL other Andaz properties includes.
I know its just snacks, its a small thing, but it further pushes the idea that this property charges the most and doesn't push to provide exemplary amenities.
What I did like about this property are what I would consider the bare minimum:
Comfortable bed Warm and quiet room Helpful positive staff Strong Wi-Fi Nicely decorated lobby and restaurant Decent location
I know there's not improving the bathroom design nor the size of the gym. As this is a rather new property, I was surprised they would design the hotel to minimize the gym and sauna areas.
As a counterpoint I stayed at the Lindner Prague Castle hotel which is the other Hyatt in Prague. And guess what?? My room has a bathtub, the sauna was working, the complimentary snacks in my room included fruit, chocolates, and macaroons. Plus a much larger breakfast selection. So this smaller property at much lower cost provides BETTER experience overall than the five stary 1000euro/night Andaz...
Again, the management of Andaz seems to have the attitude to provide the least as possible, but its those little things that add up to a lesser overall experience. As I said, this is the weakest Andaz of the ten I've stayed this year... do better...
Read moreRead moreWe have come to expect lovely experiences from Andaz hotels and they delivered this time as well. This was our second stay in an Andaz property after Vienna and it was even better than we expected. LOCATION of the hotel is great with walking distance to powder gate and (~500m) to the old town or Stare Mesto, tram stops right in front (on back side) of the hotel and even the immediate neighborhood is nice to explore. HOTEL itself is very stylishly decorated from their lobby area which has an up scale living room feel to it. They have free water and coffee at reception which you can have anytime. The reception staff was very helpful and nice. Everyone we spoke to was friendly and helpful. The ROOMS were spacious, we had the King Bed Premium room with city views, it had tasteful and subtle decorations and an amazing walk-in shower and very soothing and luxury toiletries from a local Czech brand and best part were the tall windows with beautiful views to the city. The minibar which was stocked daily with non alcoholic drinks and protein bars has some interesting choices (e.g. very refreshing Ginger lemonade, etc.). As a Hyatt explorist we got free water bottles daily and you could also fill up your own water bottles by yourself at the reception even though we were told that tap water is perfectly safe to drink. The FOOD was okay. On one of the days we had their expensive breakfast buffet (50 Euros per person) which we weren’t impressed with. The price didn’t justify their menu and taste. We have had much better food and higher number of choices in other European countries which are not even considered as economical as the Czech Republic. We had ordered room service dinner once and their food was more like what you’d expect from some fine dining restaurant (tastes good enough but portions will leave you hungry), so generally not a great experience. The CONCIERGE at the hotel reception was very helpful and helped us plan many of our days and majority of her suggestions were good. Highly recommended. OVERALL our experience was lovely, we loved the Andaz brand, their understated and subtle decorations in small things, their helpful staff and this stay helped make our trip much more pleasurable and memorable. We would love to stay here again and would highly recommend to other visitors as an upscale and...
Should I rate it 4 or 3 stars? We can only highly recommend this hotel. The breakfast is absolutely fabulous, a truly memorable experience that we would gladly repeat. (However, it is worth noting that during breakfast, a staff member brings you the bill to sign without inquiring whether you have finished ordering—all-you-can-eat, is it not?). The rooms are spacious, functional, and meticulously designed, with great attention to detail. All areas, including the rooms, are impeccably clean, and the housekeeping team is exceptionally professional. The staff is friendly, courteous, and genuinely appears to make every effort to ensure guests feel at ease, which made us feel truly at home during our stay.
However, I believe there is considerable room for improvement in terms of service quality. Prior to our arrival, the team responded promptly to all our requests, but I had specifically asked for a bottle of champagne to be placed in our room, freshly chilled, to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. While we were pleased that the room was ready by 1 PM, there was no champagne or welcome amenity upon our arrival. Initially, I assumed they would provide the welcome items later, but upon our return, I was extremely disappointed to find that what I had specifically requested, and had received written confirmation of well in advance, was entirely missing. Furthermore, the table was left bare, lacking even the basic amenities, which is not in line with the standards one would expect from a 5-star hotel.
When I approached the front desk to inquire about the missing items, no apologies were offered, nor any explanation provided. The receptionist merely asked me to wait while consulting with their supervisor. Yet, where were the supervisors, whom I never had the opportunity to meet? Eventually, when the cake and champagne were delivered, I was surprised to see that the birthday message was addressed to someone else, not to my girlfriend.
While we had an excellent experience during check-in, it was quite disappointing that no one asked about the quality of our stay during check-out, which I believe to be a...
