I rarely leave negative reviews, but our stay at NYX Prague was bad enough that future guests should be warned.
The objective part
We booked a room with a double bed. On arrival, we found two single beds pushed together. When I asked the receptionist, he told me all rooms are like this because it’s a business hotel. Later, in writing, the hotel admitted that rooms of the same category with double beds did exist — but they had already been given to other guests. In other words, they had overbooked.
Their “solution” was to offer us a larger room that actually had a double bed. They explained that this room normally cost €70 more, but as a special deal they would give it to us for €40 extra. In short: they tried to charge us 40% more just to get the bed type we had already booked and paid for.
To make things worse, every email we received was written in a very dismissive, scripted tone — the kind that keeps repeating how much they “want me to have the perfect Prague experience” while offering absolutely nothing concrete other than the €40 “upgrade.” It felt robotic and insincere, like copy-paste replies, and never addressed the actual problem.
Weeks later, we suddenly received a refund — but with no explanation, no apology, and no personal message. Just money sent back, as if that erased the experience. And this was never about money. We only had one night in Prague and wanted to enjoy it, but instead we ended up in a room we didn’t book, sleeping apart in single beds.
The subjective part
This is a matter of taste, but I personally found the entire atmosphere tacky and unpleasant. The reception looked like a mix between a casino and a gentlemen’s club, with neon lighting, lion prints on the walls, and Michael Jackson’s Beat It blasting at extreme volume. As a “welcome gift,” we received a small paper bag. When I looked inside, it wasn’t even sealed or nicely presented — just a handful of random candy pieces thrown in. Honestly, it felt extremely cheap and strange.
Final impression
Between the misleading room booking, the attempt to upsell us for something we already paid for, the insincere customer service, the lack of apology, and the tacky overall vibe, I cannot recommend this hotel.
Warning to future travelers: expect overbooking, scripted emails, hidden charges, and zero real hospitality. Guests are treated like...
Read moreI had a 1 night stay in the NYX Prague on the 12th of June. Never stayed in an NYX or Leonardo before
The good Bed was comfy Room was big Good location near metro and station Staff were friendly Free bag storage Where there was decor such as behind the bed, the desk/ tv and the emu lamp, it was nice M&Ms on check in!
The bad I know it’s like the sort of hotel that they are all different by design and it’s a old converted building, but it really feels like the conversion is done on the cheap. The corridor feels very bare apart from the room number lights and the room feels half finished.
Very high cellings, you can literally see all the pipes and wires to make it work, loads of pipes in the bathroom, and a concrete floor! No tiles, no carpet…… concrete! This with the high ceilings made it feel metaphorically very cold and unwelcoming as a space.
Shower was a monsoon (which is good) but it was hard to keep it on the monsoon setting. Shower floor was like an ice rink. No holder for the normal shower so couldn’t even revert to that to have a normal shower. Ended up having to shower one handed with the other pulling on the leaver to keep it on monsoon. The Green LED on the toilet whilst it looked nice had some weird rust/ dirt on it (although the room felt clean)
It does look like the photos on Google, but they do a good job at masking the bits that are not properly furnished.
I am on an interailing trip and have stayed in 6 hotels over the past 2 weeks and this is the first one I’ve been inclined to write a review about. I was glad it was only one night. It is a real shame as Prague has been probably my favourite city on the trip. I feel a bit sorry for the staff at the hotel writing this review as they were great, it was just a shame...
Read moreWifi was ok and quite fast, location is very good, everything is within walking distance.
BUT: The room welcomed me with smell from chlorine detergent, so first thing I had to do was to open the windows to get rid of that. Next thing is the light in the room, it might be acceptable for some people but for me it was not enough and not properly placed. For just hanging out there it will be fine but for working it is not good. The fridge was empty, I expected at least some mineral water or soda in it. Also the vending machine on the floor was empty. Why are they even there? What really disturbed me was the noise: From the street and the tram you didn't hear that much but from the neighbours and the cleaning ladies outside on the floor you could hear everything. I was waking up several times that night. Maybe invest a little bit in better interior walls and doors? Although it smelled from detergent in the room it was not properly clean, you can see at the picture from the sink in the bathroom. The staff at the reception was nice but they could have also asked if I enjoyed my stay and if I was satisfied. Since they didn't ask I also didn't tell them. Also I didn't get an invoice for my stay although they were asking if I'm traveling private or for business, so they can prepare that. In total I wouldn't recommend staying here, it is just an overrated hype hotel. In my opinion not worth the money, the materials are cheap and the management could improve a lot. Even for the breakfast they charge you extra in this price range! First...
