My girlfriend and I went here recently for a number of meals, twice for dinner and once for lunch. The first experience was great, the food was good for the price. The second time the food was okay, but the wait staff had now become rude and not only did they throw our food on the table after a decent wait (they did not apologise), they also had the audacity to “recommend” their own tip for their level of service. Their recommended tip was 11% of the total bill which I thought was crazy because the service was terrible. The third dining experience was the worst. The same rude wait staff were working and when my girlfriend asked for regular tap water, they told her they did not serve this despite it being served to us the past two times, and brought her bottled water that was already opened (I suspect they fill old bottles with regular tap water) for which they charged us. The food was now awful and our total bill should have been 398 CZK but the bill stated 530 CZK. The difference was 32 CZK for the water and 100 CZK recommended tip, which is more than 25%!!!!! When I confronted the wait staff about it, they tried to take me for a fool and told me that they write 4s as 5s in Czech. Long story short... this place is NOT friendly to tourists. Rather than treat you as people who help their economy, they try to take you for an idiot and essentially...
Read moreAbout the service: one waitress was unsmiling but civil and efficient, everyone else was very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome - despite being very obviously non-local. Overall, excellent service. (Every time we went, most or even all of the free tables had "reserved" signs on them. I think they do this to stop people wandering in and sitting themselves down, especially if they're only wanting to drink and not eat. Don't be put off by this - we noticed a few people walking in and leaving immediately. Our experience was that if you're dining they will give you a table as long as there is one that's not actually occupied - just ask) The food: after finding the place by chance on our first night in Prague, we came back twice more - we ate dinner there on 3 out of our 4 days in Prague. In hindsight, we wished we'd made it 4 out of 4. The food was very good indeed. The beer: the only place we had better was a (much more expensive) micro-brewery pub. The prices: very fair, especially considering it's only minutes from Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square. Everywhere else we went, we paid more for both food and drink. Overall: if you want to eat dinner in a central location, I think you will struggle to find a...
Read moreThis was the first restaurant we visited in Prague whilst looking for Czech food, and it felt very authentic!
The food was excellent, with extremely large portions at a very low price. I had the "Jindřich" and my partner had the "Roasted pork ribs with honey and black beer". Both were some of the best food we ate during our entire 2-week trip, with both dishes having plenty of unique flavours.
Service was prompt and friendly enough, pretty standard if you've eaten in UK pubs. Unfortunately the cheap food and beer resulted in a large group (10+) of men, along with multiple smaller groups, drinking at the surrounding tables with all the resulting boisterousness you'd expect! When we entered there were 3-4 couples scattered around, by the time we left it was around 50% filled with drinking groups of men, with only a couple of other customers.
This absolutely isn't the fault of the restaurant, and the loud drinking groups weren't aggressive or anything, but it does make it impossible to talk or relax, and can be a little disconcerting on your first night in a country! Of course, it's partially our fault for visiting on a Friday afternoon (4:30pm).
In summary, I would visit again, but would perhaps aim for lunchtime...
