Family members referred us to this great place to stay. The size of the flats/rooms (not fancy but very comfortable) is huge and surprising if you look at the price you are paying. ||||Pension Unie is located on the top (6th) floor of an old building On Tesnov street, close to the Hilton Hotel. It is also literally just a short walk underneath the highway to reach the Florenc station of the Metro that can take you to the main train station or even to the bus stop where you will get the bus to or from the airport.||||It is about a kilometre and a half from the beginning of the Old Town of Prague and Nam. Republiky Square. Also the Palladium shopping centre that has 200 shops. The Hop On - Hop Off Bus stop (Na Florenci street) is also just 600 meters down the road which makes sightseeing very easy. The tram stop is just around the corner. It is also close to a variety of restaurants and a super market (SPAR) for groceries. ||||We arrived late in the afternoon on the weekend. They arranged for us to get our key from reception of the building since the building is used by a variety of other working tenants. ||||There is a normal lift that takes you to the 5th floor. From there you have to take the stairs to the 6th floor where you will enter (through a locked door) into the hall of Pension Unie. We stayed in room 2. ||||The rooms are quite secure since you have two doors leading towards the room with a foyer, nice bathroom and a huge room. It also has a balcony (deck onto the roof of the building below) with a view onto the street and a side-view of the Old Town and castle. (In summer it must be great to sit and enjoy the view, we were here in winter)||||The bathroom has only a shower which is fine but it has only a shower curtain which makes it a bit difficult not to get the whole floor wet, but if you are careful it is fine. It also has a nice towel heater which works very well. ||||The room has a small kitchenette which they stock with tea, coffee and sugar – on the house. It also has a toaster, kettle and even 2 plate stove. The fridge is stocked with a variety of bread toppings like honey, jam and pates (this is included for you to enjoy with a loaf of white bread. This is your breakfast that is included in the price. Since this is a self-catering flat this is a nice extra and we were grateful for it since it is not a guesthouse where they are suppose to give you breakfast) The fridge is also stocked with water, wine and beer which are for sale at a very reasonable price.||||The room has 2 couches (one a sleeper couch), a 4 seater dining room table and a coffee table. Also two twin beds. There is wall heaters which provides good heating for the room in winter, however it seems like it is controlled through the central heating system of the building and can make a bit of “dripping” noises in the evening when the heats comes through. It bothered me a bit since I am a light sleeper however my husband didn’t even notice it.||||The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and even lent us a guide book for Prague when we asked. They are also very willing to help whenever they can. ||||I previously referred to a “normal” lift that you can use. A very funny and quite interesting feature of the building is its old lift. It is literally small boxes on a cable of something (haven’t quite figured how it works yet) that just keeps on moving. So you have to step quickly into one of the boxes when it passes your floor. It doesn’t stop at all. When you are at the floor that you want you need to quickly step out. There is one that goes up and one that goes down. It is quite fascinating and entertaining. It only works during the day from 8:00 till 15:00, I think. It is really something to try out at least once. ||||Overall we enjoyed our stay here tremendously and we would love to return...
Read moreWe booked this place last minute as our previous accommodation fell through. We stayed for four nights & it was perfect for our needs. |It is on the 6th floor of the building & the lift only goes to the 5th floor, so there is one flight of stairs to carry your luggage up. |We were travelling with a two year old & his buggy, but we managed without difficulty. |Ivana, the owner, was lovely & very helpful. The rooms are all different. Ours was huge. It had a large double bed, made of two singles together, in the European way. There was also a separate single bed & the sofa looked like it folded into a standard double. The beds were very firm, but we slept well in them. |There was a kettle, toaster & fridge, with a sink for dishes & plenty of cupboard space. There was a door leading to a balcony outside, but we didn't use this at all because of the aforementioned two year old! There was also a dining table with 4 chairs. |The bathroom had a shower & was very clean. The pressure from the shower was adequate, but not powerful. This was absolutely fine for us. |I saw that a previous reviewer left without stating because they did not feel safe. It IS different from a typical hotel, but if you accept that it's not the same as you are used to then it can be seen to be perfectly delightful. |We felt comfortable & safe at all times. And we thoroughly enjoyed our Prague adventure. |We will hopefully return there one day & have no hesitation in...
Read moreWe booked online late (had to change plans suddenly due to illness), and were very pleased. Good, locked parking for 12Kr/day. Staff speaks very workable English, and are friendly. Our room/suite was on the top floor, so a reasonable/easy walk up one flight of stairs from the top floor of the elevator. We had 3 beds for 2 parents and a teen, with kitchenette/fridge. Everything was clean. Porch from our door was not well-maintained, but it was fun to go out for the views. This was clearly an old Soviet apartment, and a nice one at that. I really enjoyed the experience. They offer breakfast in the form of a loaf of bread, butter and several jams, with toaster that works well. No complaints, but we ate just down the street for very cheaply in the mornings for a good pastry & eggs breakfast instead. The location was easy to find, and centrally located to bus/tram & metro stops, and a 500m + walk to the downtown shopping district and old city. Extra bonus was the ability to see fireworks nearly every night from our hotel windows. For the equivalent of $50/night, it...
