Let me set the scene. I have just enthusiastically dumped chili into my pho and eagerly splash into the soup, immediately displacing a large amount of chili saturated soup onto my tender eye. Instinctively I reach into my eye with my hand, the same hand with which I have only thirty seconds prior squeezed out a (very fresh!) lemon (or similarly sour citrus). The pain is immediate. I stumble downstairs with my sleeve clamped between my eye and my glasses, snot and tears running down my face. I head to the cash register where my server is standing. He IMMEDIATELY busts out a napkin and proceeds to guide me like a certified service animal to the bathroom. He holds all the doors open for me. He turns on the faucet and tests the water temperature with his wrist (!!) like I am a newborn. He leaves while I proceed to dangle my entire head under the stream of sweet sweet water until the pain fades, upon which he enters with more napkins and words of encouragement. I have never felt so well taken care of in my entire life, including in the womb. Honestly at this point they could have served me anything and I would rate this restaurant five stars for this poor servers kindness and ability to not pull a face when a tourist runs up to him with a face full of snot. However the pho was excellent and my friend's spring rolls were also good. We were also served really fast. Would...
Read moreCame here around noon on a weekday. Didn't think anything of it, but this place was packed! The restaurant was full of locals. We were luckily able to grab a table downstairs. Every seat in the house was full. It was great to see. The workers were very friendly and could tell they were busy! I ordered the pho and egg rolls. Perfect for any day, but especially on a day where it was cold and windy here. I wasn't expecting much, but I was impressed. The Vietnamese egg rolls were small bite sized, but had good flavor. I enjoyed the dipping sauce that it came with as well. It didn't have a ton of flavor, but enough to balance the egg roll flavor. I am used to the sauce with more fish sauce flavor in there. The pho broth initially was a little bland, but I mixed it up and it tasted better. I did add some more black pepper from the table, just because I put it on everything and Sriracha as well. I am also used to having bean sprouts, lime, and Thai basil in addition to the pho, but the green onions, onions, and cilantro that was already in the bowl was still good. It was simple. This restaurant was in walking distance of hotel. I would definitely come back here to try some of their other entree's! The food from the other tables...
Read moreThe dishes are good, but I rate 1 star for the attitude of the restaurant. We came first and ordered 2 soups ( pho + bun ca ) - which could be served quickly. 3 tables of korean / european tourists (I guess) who came after us were served first, even though their dishes are much more complicated ( grilled pork, rice with meat ), when they left the restaurant we still did not be served anything. The waiter passed our table many times, he remebered what i had ordered. We were finally served after complaining with an angry emotion. The vietnamese tourists are not your clients? You only respect foreign tourists? An advice for vietnamese tourists who want to taste our traditional food here: do not be too nice, and do not speak...
