Villa Layla Hostel — Hotel in Cairo

I meant to review much earlier but it slipped me until I was reminiscing back on my stay just now!!

I stayed at this LOVELY nook for a good 5 or so weeks back in April/May, not many had known of it as it had only opened 2 months prior. It was a hidden gem and huge bargain for me as the accomodation for my language school had just run out and I was looking for somewhere comfortable, clean and affordable to stay. This not only met but exceeded those requirements.

I had never stayed in a hostel before so I was skeptical to say the least… but the owner really went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. The bathrooms!!! They thought of EVERYTHING. Honestly, the bathrooms are cleaner, nicer, and fancier than your average hotel bathroom. There’s more than enough stalls to accommodate for everyone.

Every detail and accessory to all aspects of decor, convenience and comfort were carefully curated and tastefully placed. Hangers, lockers, storage room where you need it. Space to change in front of each shower stall. Coffee, tea. Plentiful outdoor seating, charging in common areas. The pool area is GORGEOUS

I am pretty sure the water is filtered here, because my hair was the best it had been during my entire stay in Cairo (I’ve been at 3 different accommodations during my entire stay).

In spite of the bustling energy of the surrounding neighborhood, the tranquility of this particular street remains peacefully unspoiled.

But most of all, the service is 11/10. The staff are ABSOLUTE sweethearts. I have interacted with housekeeping, the reception, the owner and they all greet with a smile and independently went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. Offered me food free of charge, replaced my toothbrush when it had went missing, and even discounted a portion of my stay after I had made a last minute out-of-country trip for several nights. ⚠️Sexual harassment by a staff member ⚠️||||I was sexually harassed by a staff member ||during my stay, after a very uncomfortable conversation said staff member tried cornering me and when i escaped him to go to my room he then walked straight into my female only dorm while i was changing without knocking !!!!||||management immediately heard about this complaint and dismissed it and dismissed my request to have the employee not bother me, they also kept harassing me to stop talking about it putting up excuses for the employee describing him as a """"teenager who is on fire""" and wants to """"sexually explore"""" and that i should take it as flirting.||||This experience left me distressed, and I’m still being harassed by hostel staff many months after i left to remove my hostel world review. they used my information on the booking to reach out to me on multiple platforms like WhatsApp, !!!international phone calls!!! even tho i have blocked them on all numbers they reached out from initially but they keep reaching out from new numbers and they also tried on facebook.||||Female travelers, please be cautious!!! the entire staff stood behind the harasser and minimized what happened to me.||||Im posting this here so other solo female travelers can make an informed...

Please book this place ASAP!

As a solo female traveler, I was kind of scared of staying in a hostel in Cairo, but this place changed my whole stay experience. From the moment I arrived, they greeted me very well and were super super friendly! The place is AMANZINGLY BEAUTIFUL. It even has a terrace with a pool area. This place literally made everything so much better, and is very well located. Everything is very clean and everyone is very nice. I felt very safe in there.

It’s obvious how much effort the owner put into this home, he even sat down with me and gave me suggestions on what places to go as a solo female in Cairo and how to dress. They have a beautiful little cat named layla too!

As a latina im always kind of concerned of leaving my things out without me being there. But I can definitely say that I felt VERY secure with all of my things there, because I felt very safe with the workers and also with the other tourists.

Please don’t think it to much! This place is the BEST. Im so thankful I booked it. They also have a permanent coffee/tea station, and filtered water. This place changed my perspective on...
