The Oxalys is an average hotel - I would classify it as a 3 star. We just returned 2 days ago so I will start with the positives.||- Quiet location (nice with kids but a 10+ min walk to go up the village every day to shops, supermarkets, restautants)|- friendly staff in restaurant|- handy location to Cairn lift (but you need to be able to do blues to get to it and off the slopes)|- Spa is very small but was very good. Had one of the best facials and massages. Fiona is absolutely excellent. Fair pricing. Calm and smelt beautiful in there. Tranquil.|- log stove in room was nice.|- kitchen was new and nice to use||The negatives - this is relative to price - if it was a youth hostel or a 2 star hotel would not mention these but at €900 per night for myself, husband and teenage son I would have expected a higher standard.||- Reception desk only manned for a few hours per day - so if you or a child happens to lose a room key etc you will not be able to get anyone to help until they return a few hours later.|- Restaurant is basic and food is average to be honest for the price.|- Basically it is completley self catering set up. You have to clean the appartment, make your bed, sweep the floor, wash up, ask for towels as they are not changed, take your rubbish out, or you will be fined. not a €900 per night experience.|- there is no breakfast available in the hotel - when I asked I was told that they offered it before and no one wanted breakfast !!! So you can have some bread delivered if you want. Terrible. You then have to have to walk up the town and buy your own butter, coffee, sugar, milk etc to go with them though!|- Bath towels were dirty and grey, and rough.|- Bathrooms were the smallest I have ever been in|- Both showers leaked and had a sign to say that they were sorry about that fact.|- One shower door only opened 30 cms and you had to slide in.|- The pool area is completley unsupervised. Steam room out of action. Big picture window broken and taped up. Not enough beds. Pool is 1.70 deep all round - so not suitable if you have small children. There are no fresh towels available just everyones discarded towels there. Never saw a staff member in there in 7 days.|- Ski in - ski out if you are all able for a blue slope outside the door.|- Beds are the hardest I have ever slept on. had to sleep on the duvet.|- the lounge area is ok - but gas fire was rarely lit - and then only if you asked. |- Boot room is grim - and smells.||One of the things I dislike most about Hotels advertising is how the dress rooms for their brochure photos and then remove all the nice touches for guests....
Read moreWe were looking for decent accommodation for a return visit to VT for myself wife and daughter (23) but also a first time skiing holiday for my daughter and her husband and 3 grandsons (15,13,11) - first time skiing on snow for the boys. ||Took an 8 person apartment (east facing significantly cheaper than south but just not got the same view of slopes - but internally the same). ||Paid a bit more than the more basic accommodation we have used previously but we felt it was good for the money - also got an early booking discount. ||The additional facilities were well worth it - 4 bedrooms and a good sized living and kitchen area over 3 floors - 2 bedrooms downstairs and 2 upstairs). Each room had its own shower and a toilet between 2. Kitchen very well equipped with cooker, oven/microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and plenty dishes and pots/pans. Large table for 8 people. Comfy lounge area with long bench sofa and 2 armchairs, smart tv, 2 balconies - lounge and upper bedroom. ||We booked ski equipment from the hotel. Good ski shop in the building so really easy to obtain and return and a discount making the price similar to external shops. Excellent ski store with good sized private lockers well heated so boots dry overnight and direct access to slopes for both ski in and out - straight down to Péclet / Plein Sud / etc and ski back from Plein Sud thro town or right next to Cairn - 2 min walk||A nice in house swimming pool (small but deep), jacuzzi, 2 saunas and steam room. Great way to relax after a day skiing, well used but never a problem with being too busy to get in. ||Nice restaurant in hotel - ate there twice and similar priced to others in the town (few are cheap!). Staff very friendly and helpful. But apartment fine for cooking and eating in - we ate in 3 nights to save some money -eating out not cheap! Can have croissants and|bread delivered to apartment at 8am.||A few minor issues with rooms were dealt with very quickly and efficiently by staff||Overall the accommodation was just what we were hoping for and we were not disappointed. Would definitely come back...
Read moreI am extremely disappointed with my recent stay at Oxalys and I feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction. This has been the worst apartment experience I have had in the 25 years that I have been skiing in VT. The pictures provided on the website were incredibly misleading and did not accurately reflect the actual appearance of the apartment.
Upon arrival, it was immediately evident that everything in the apartment was worn out and in dire need of maintenance. The bathrooms had visible mold, which is not only unsightly but also a health concern. The rooms were incredibly small and lacked sufficient storage space.
One of the most frustrating aspects of my stay was the abysmal WiFi connection. With a download speed of only 2.5 Mbps, it was impossible to carry out even basic online tasks. This is completely unacceptable in this day and age, especially for a supposedly 4-star accommodation.
To add insult to injury, the kitchen lacked an oven, which severely limited our ability to cook meals. Additionally, for an apartment that accommodates eight people, the dishwasher provided was disappointingly small.
The ski storage area was a nightmare. It was not only stinky but also moldy, with lockers that were extremely basic and lacked proper security measures. This is simply unacceptable for a property that claims to offer a high standard of service.
The value for money at Oxalys was absolutely unacceptable. The experience fell far short of the expected 4-star level and did not justify the price paid for the stay.
Furthermore, I was shocked to discover that EUR 250 had been deducted from my credit card for the simple oversight of forgetting to empty the trash and leaving a few teacups and glasses in the dishwasher. Despite attempting to negotiate or reach a resolution, no goodwill was shown by the management.
To make matters worse, the promised towel change in the middle of the week never happened. This lack of attention to detail and failure to fulfill basic services is highly disappointing.
In conclusion, make a long turn...
