Despite the 'Styles' included in the name of this Etablissement, be not deceived! The interior is inspired by 'cool' corporate workspaces (the kicker, the fruit bowl, the sitting gadgets, etc), which is the last thing you'd want in your leisure time. The breakfast is served in the basement, which did not raise our spirits (even though the people working there and the food are both top notch). The standard double room is an absolute nutcase of design: tiny, claustrophobic interior with the most ridiculous, nightmare generating USA stock photos spreading even to the ceiling. Hardly enough space to walk to the bathroom, not to mention the translucid glass bathroom door, which - even for people not minding the obvious privacy problem - makes it practically impossible to use the bathroom at night, or in the morning without waking your partner. As the brochure explains, you can choose your preferred pillow style: GREAT. But how about asking your guests if they'd like only one, giant piece of blanket for two, instead? I'd really appreciate that, for sure. Because I can assure you, people coming from outside France are puzzled at this custom. Being prepared for this, I asked at the reception upon arrival, if I could get an extra blanket, to which I got reassured that there is an extra blanket in the room - except there wasn't, only a microfaser bedspread. We only stayed for one night, so I thought it's not worth to make a fuss about it. The air-conditioner was loud, the cosmetic mirror in the bathroom was broken, the window was looking over a loud, depressing inner court.. all this at a price tag of 121 EUR, absolutely not worth it. On the other hand, the breakfast was simply Great. And, last but not least: the staff of this hotel has my full respect because they operate this diabolic piece of architecture with a lot of kindness and care, they do an...
Read moreThe staff were very friendly, we could check in although we had arrived early. The room was clean and cozy, we even had a small balcony. Breakfast was in the basement in a tiny room with a record-player and lots of old vinyls that can actually be played. There was a great choice of breads, cereals, fruits and drinks, however, after loading my plate with bacon I searched in vain for some scrambled eggs to go along with it. There were eggs, but they had yet to be boiled. This put me off a bit: when I'm on vacation I want to eat from a readily prepared buffet, not do my own cooking. So I ended up eating all that bacon with no eggs on the side. Had I known that before, I would have chosen something different to eat in the first place. Aside from that, the location of the hotel is quite good, next to the station, but with no car park. If you want to park your car, you have to use the public parking garage which is about 200 metres away. You get a lower rate though when presenting the ticket at the hotel desk. Compared to other IBIS Styles Hotels I've stayed at so far, I was missing the "Styles" here. The design of the room was a little overloaded, with wall prints and pictures of various cities all in one place. A little less would have sufficed, maybe one city per room, not Paris, San Francisco, New York and what not in ONE room, when it's Strasbourg where I'm staying. Why not use pics of Strasbourg? Just...
