Despite the 'Styles' included in the name of this Etablissement, be not deceived! The interior is inspired by 'cool' corporate workspaces (the kicker, the fruit bowl, the sitting gadgets, etc), which is the last thing you'd want in your leisure time. The breakfast is served in the basement, which did not raise our spirits (even though the people working there and the food are both top notch). The standard double room is an absolute nutcase of design: tiny, claustrophobic interior with the most ridiculous, nightmare generating USA stock photos spreading even to the ceiling. Hardly enough space to walk to the bathroom, not to mention the translucid glass bathroom door, which - even for people not minding the obvious privacy problem - makes it practically impossible to use the bathroom at night, or in the morning without waking your partner. As the brochure explains, you can choose your preferred pillow style: GREAT. But how about asking your guests if they'd like only one, giant piece of blanket for two, instead? I'd really appreciate that, for sure. Because I can assure you, people coming from outside France are puzzled at this custom. Being prepared for this, I asked at the reception upon arrival, if I could get an extra blanket, to which I got reassured that there is an extra blanket in the room - except there wasn't, only a microfaser bedspread. We only stayed for one night, so I thought it's not worth to make a fuss about it. The air-conditioner was loud, the cosmetic mirror in the bathroom was broken, the window was looking over a loud, depressing inner court.. all this at a price tag of 121 EUR, absolutely not worth it. On the other hand, the breakfast was simply Great. And, last but not least: the staff of this hotel has my full respect because they operate this diabolic piece of architecture with a lot of kindness and care, they do an...

The staff were very friendly, we could check in although we had arrived early. The room was clean and cozy, we even had a small balcony. Breakfast was in the basement in a tiny room with a record-player and lots of old vinyls that can actually be played. There was a great choice of breads, cereals, fruits and drinks, however, after loading my plate with bacon I searched in vain for some scrambled eggs to go along with it. There were eggs, but they had yet to be boiled. This put me off a bit: when I'm on vacation I want to eat from a readily prepared buffet, not do my own cooking. So I ended up eating all that bacon with no eggs on the side. Had I known that before, I would have chosen something different to eat in the first place. Aside from that, the location of the hotel is quite good, next to the station, but with no car park. If you want to park your car, you have to use the public parking garage which is about 200 metres away. You get a lower rate though when presenting the ticket at the hotel desk. Compared to other IBIS Styles Hotels I've stayed at so far, I was missing the "Styles" here. The design of the room was a little overloaded, with wall prints and pictures of various cities all in one place. A little less would have sufficed, maybe one city per room, not Paris, San Francisco, New York and what not in ONE room, when it's Strasbourg where I'm staying. Why not use pics of Strasbourg? Just...

Good location if arriving by train. Lots of hotels around the square in front of the station. This one is easy to find in the street where the McDonald's is on the corner. ||Short walk to la petite France area, and easy walk to cathedral area (around 15mins). To get to European parliament area, you can get tram C from outside station to République stop and then change to line E. This makes it a good location for all main areas. ||There is a Carrefour City small supermarket directly opposite in the same street which stays open to 9pm. Handy for drinks and snacks. ||Room and bathroom were small, but very clean, and bathroom was modern. No door on the bathroom which might have been an issue if two people were sharing! |Bed was comfortable and air con worked well in heat of summer. Choice of pillows. ||Room had a kettle and bottle of water and small bag of sweets were left each day when room was cleaned. ||Breakfast was good. Plenty of choice even around 9.30am when service finished at 10.00. Choice of cereal, yogurts, pastries, fruit, juices, coffee... The breakfast room was modern and it was never too busy while I was there. ||Would happily stay here again on a...

In November, decided to go to Strasbourg and found this hotel to be in the budget I was willing to spend. It's easy to walk to the markets on Grande-Île and more convenient not to stay on the island since they checked all bags going in. Plenty of places to eat nearby and a grocery store across the street if needed. The hotel is a quick walk from the train station, which was helpful when I was trying to catch the trains to visit markets in nearby towns. I also needed to extend my stay for a day and the front desk was very helpful and gave me a good price. Lots of seating available during breakfast and plenty to eat/drink. The room is small but fine for a solo traveler. The gingerbread cookies they gave were cute. My favorite part was that there was a water dispenser in the lobby area where the water was pretty cold and you could make it a seltzer. This helped save money. My least favorite was the bathroom design. The bathroom is incredibly small and the shower area only has a glass partition. Water still went all over floor and I'm sure seeped into the room. The shower should either be enclosed and/or the bathroom floor needs a drain.

The Bottomline: close to the train station, walking distance from the Christmas Market and budget friendly accommodation. Breakfast: 5/5 - the buffet breakfast is included in the rate. It's nothing fancy but the breakfast service is excellent and are always refilled: croissants, camembert, Munster cheese, fruits, baguette, eggs, cold cuts, coffee, fruit juices, smoothies, yogurt etc. Room: we had the bigger room on the top floor and I recommend booking this one if you're not flying solo. Otherwise the smaller rooms have awkward bathroom doors that are open underneath (so imagine the smell if someone is doing a number 2 🧐). Elevator: typical super small European elevator and can only accomodate 2 people and a couple of luggages. If you're claustrophobic, I suggest using the stairs. There is also a convenience store across the street which is super convenient. That said, again this is a budget hotel. Expect comfort and practicality and nothing fancy and you'll be fine.
