On our first day in Cologne we dropped by Haus Enteresan to get a drink and a sandwich (other places along the river are very expensive as you'd expect). The food was good but the inside area is tiny so we sat on a bench outside. Not the most elegant place to eat as it is predominantly a pizza/sandwich bar but we were on a budget and unwilling to pay the inflated prices further down the river.||||A few days later, we booked to stay there on our last night in the city as it was the only place we could that looked decent and was under 50 Euros a night. We arrived and were taken around the corner and up some steps to a private apartment block, the guy didn't seem to speak much English but my German was good enough to converse with him and get all the information we needed. ||||We were expecting one of the colourful little rooms we'd seen online but ended up with a sizeable studio apartment, he told us that normally this is for people of 4 or more and was more expensive but he'd given it to us as other rooms weren't ready. This could be because they'd double-booked, either way we were happy to have our own privacy and a bigger space. ||||The kitchen was clean, bathroom decent and the bed was comfortable (we slept on the circular shaped one just for something different!)||||My partner and I are into places with a bit of character but I must admit that this place is certainly very bizarre in its decor and is a touch old fashioned, no crisp white bedding or flat screen televisions so I would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone with very specific standards.||||The TV didn't work and there was no WiFi, and the blinds across the window didn't fully close (a bit annoying as we backed onto a narrow street where people were regularly walking by). We were pleased to have a good amount of space though and everything seemed to be clean.||||Having read a very negative review of this place which suggests that the owners let out their friends rooms to make some extra cash, I wouldn't be surprised. There was mismatched crockery in the cupboards and the decor/bedding isn't in keeping with what you'd expect for a dedicated holiday apartment. ||||So, if you're into using Airbnb this place would definitely suit. If you like specific standards and all the bells and whistles that come with a 4* plus hotel stay, don't do it, simply because it won't be to your taste and is unlikely to meet your requirements. We weren't bothered that it was a bit odd and that we didn't have a working TV etc but I can imagine many people being upset with this place. Also, breakfast is served in the small pizza bar/cafe area which also acts as the reception area (again, not something I'd readily recommend to a lot of people I know).||||The breakfast was included and was decent, little pots of Nutella and bread, some meat and cheese and some boiled eggs etc, the milk was off but the woman replaced it and the coffee I'd poured it into! It was the same woman who'd served us our sandwich a few days before and she didn't seem in the best mood when we had breakfast there, but I get the impression that she does the breakfasts because it means they can offer/charge a bit more and not because she's majorly into the whole hospitality thing. ||||All in all a unique and fun experience but certainly not suitable...
Read moreWhat a great place. We only stayed 1 night in Koln, visiting the cathedral and chocolate museum. We chose this hotel because it was cheap and had availability - but actually it was a superb little find. Totally recommended. ||The “party trick” for the room we had was an unexpected roof terrace!!! So nice - has a bench and a nice sitting area under cover as well as a bench outside on the roof. Lovely view. We didn’t have time to do so but would be great for a quiet evening with a book and a bottle of wine!!||Our room fitted the 3 of us - mum, dad and daughter - and the people in the cafe downstairs are so friendly! ||We arrived first thing, and they were happy for us to drop our bags way before check in, which was nice. Had a lovely coffee and ice cream when we arrived and prices very reasonable for the ice creams - which were delicious!!||The room itself has quite a compact private bathroom with a shower, and shampoo /conditioner and towels which were all nice - proper bottles, not those little things. Super clean. Linen and towels were also super clean and nice. tea/coffee kitchenette appears to be shared with one other apartment, but we didn’t see anyone there. Milk was on hand in the fridge and in a carton rather than having to “ration” each cup like in most hotels. Everything was really nice. ||To be clear, the room is clean and functional - not what you would call “posh”, but practical and was very nice for us. I tend to prefer the “down-to-earth” places, like this - and this was super quirky and nice. The people who run this place had clearly put in a real effort to make it nice and to keep it nice. Thank you!! ||Location is spot on for seeing the sights - everything is in walking distance. Lovely restaurants and cafes and bars - so much choice, (although the restaurant we picked was quite pricey). ||This hotel was great though!! And the staff were super nice and friendly also. Roof terrace is the icing...
Read moreRead before writing this review, some of the ones before me... The situation is like this: -Yes the drains from the sink are a little slower, but you can close the water while brushing your teeth 😝 -You can't compare it to a hotel. It is an old house and a lot of items inside it are old. Consider it a trip in time. -For the location on the river Rhine, 65 euros for a room with a view in Köln it is quite cheap -The mattress was indeed a little soft, but I slept good -and yes, being next to restaurants with terraces it is going to be loud until early in the morning.
Now, if you want to stay in something different and be in the historical Center and have a river view this is the place to be. If you are looking for comfort, maybe you are in the wrong place. I simply loved it... Also the wood stairs... The rooms... The architecture...
The reception is at the pizza little restaurant from the front.
We stayed one night...
