Well priced and rooms are comfortable, just be aware that the communal areas are a bit scruffy.
When we booked the room, we were asked to make a direct bank payment for one night, just so you are aware, as this involves sending money abroad, but don't worry, use Wise or some other bank service.
We stayed in two apartments, the roof terrace and the luxury 2 apartment. The balance was owed on arrival.
The rooms are supposed to be ready for check-in at 2 pm. we got there early on a Friday and were treated to drinks by Stratos in the wine bar downstairs until the rooms were prepared.
Our initial impression wasn't great as, as soon as you walk into this small apartment block, you're immediately greeted by a very scruffy storage area with a broken table and chairs stacked up which I assume were from the restaurant. The hallways and other communal areas hadn't yet been cleaned and, again, looked a little scruffy, but it wasn't a major issue. It can get windy in Athens and leaves, and empty water bottles can get blown in from the terrace on the 1st floor (because other guests don't know what a bin is clearly!).
Everything worked fine in both apartments but one annoyance was that the when you remove your room card from the slot inside the room, literally all the electricity is switched off, including the fridge, so nothing ever stayed cold.
The roof terrace door can't be locked, so anyone can walk up onto the terrace where the room with a good view is, this is where we stayed. Be warned, the roof terrace room is smaller than you might expect. There is a sliding white metallic shutter that sits in front of a sliding glass door, which is your entrance into your room, and immediately in front of you is the bed.
I complained about the fact that the exterior shutter door could not be locked from the inside, and as there is no curtain in front of the sliding glass door, anyone could slide open the shutter door and see straight into your room as you slept, if anyone did wonder upto the roof terrace which they could.
The roof terrace was very scruffy, lots of bird droppings everywhere, and that metal shutter was dirty. It's not as nice as the original pictures show on the website, it's just a bit worn.
The WiFi works fine and if you're happy being smack bang in the centre of everything then it really is a great location, just be aware that it can get noisy as a busy narrow main road is directly in front of the property, this may affect light sleepers.
Oh and excellent tip...if you're on a budget, grab your bottled water, fruit and snacks a A to B (supermarket chain) which is across the road to the left near the ice cream parlour...bottles of water...
Read moreWhen originally booking for a place in Athens I was unsure due to the limited google reviews Metis has.
However I don't regret booking one bit, and am pleased to be able to report that you should stay at Metis for your trip to Athens!
Rooms large and clean, luxurious finishes and feel to the place. (Apologies that I don't have better photos). Only caution is if you're a light sleeper you might need some eat plugs as the main street is below and honks from cars and church bells will be heard.
Self check in was easy and throughout our stay we had contact with the lovely staff down at store front and also the restaurant below. Helpful and assisted us with some documents we had to print, and checked in with us to see how our stay was.
Location was central, easy 5min walk to Monastiraki station.
Overall, highly recommend place to stay in athens! Wonderful professionalism and assistance from the...
