I have been visiting the Mykonos Theoxenia hotel for 15+ years and I have seen the property and management undergo a lot of changes over the years. Honestly, this was my last trip to this property and I will explain why.||Pros: The location is amazing and cannot be beat. It is close to town, and easy to walk to everywhere. The setting is also gorgeous with beautiful sunsets and windmills close by. I appreciate the new room renovations which were badly needed but will comment on that below. Some of the staff is amazing and is the reason why I return every year-in particular, Nellie, who has been there for at least 5 years, and has a heart of gold. She welcomes clients, remembers details, and goes out of her way to be professional. Same goes for Dora, whom I met this year, the manager for cleaning services-kind, professional, always available, helpful. It was my son's 8th birthday and they ordered balloons and cake and make it special. If it wasnt for people like Nellie and Dora, the place would die.||Negative: Not sure where to start as there as so many these days so I will break it down into groups.||Room: We had a 2 bedroom suite with a private pool. The room was spacious, there were two bathrooms. The pool was nice. However, when you pay $2500/night, the expectation is for much more than is delivered. For example, the bedding and pillows should be first class, the bathrooms should be pristine as far as paint and decor, the pool should be clean and free of debris. Our room was full of ants, all the time, and the outside deck was pull of pigeons and their droppings, so one would constantly walk into it. The overall room decor is ok at best, nothing spectacular, and as I said, the beddding, toileries, etc, are far below par.||Service: The place lacks service, except for Nellie and Dora. Nobody says much, and some of the staff is cold to put it best. Outside of breakfast, service is nonexistent. We could never get service at the pool or deck at sunset because nobody was ever present or cared to ask. I realize that 2-3 people quit this week due to management issues, but that is a terrible problem to have, as we stayed a full week and I was never approached by anyone at the main pool or deck about drinks, food, etc. Zero service. ||Music: It is worth a note that Mykonos is about music. The music throughout town and restaurants is wonderful. EXCEPT here in the common areas or the pool where it is old and prehistoric. Honestly, at times I felt like I was more in Birmingham Alabama. I do know who who chooses this but I mentioned this last year to the staff and this year is went downhill. Honestly, it is depressing.||Food: There is a breakfast buffet. Honestly, maybe this was us, but I do not understand this breakfast and it is worse than 10 years ago. The stuff they feed you feels like left-over dinner- chicken, broccoli, more desserts than God imagines, and sweets like cakes which are desserts. 90% of the food makes no sense and few times despite the choices, we were not sure what to eat becuase simple things like cheeses, and breads, and cold-cuts, etc were not widely available. The place needs a new chef at best and someone who understands breakfast.||Gym: It is an afterthought closet at best||Overall, this is clearly in my opnion a major problem with management. I just spent a few weeks at Four Seasons Kyoto and Mandarin Oriental Tokyo were suites are half the price, the service is impeccable, the room is oustanding. The management and people who run or run down Mykonos Theoxenia over the past decade would do well to travel to first class hotels and see how to run a world-class institution.||Again, I appreciate the upgrade in decor, but it is accompanied with total downgrade in service and staff and management (except for Nelli and Dora) and having spent the last 15+ years there, I will be trying another hotel in Mykonos. This is simply not worth it financially for the service and experience you get and I do not feel the management gets it at all.||It is sad what is happening to this...

Read moreI stayed at the Theoxenia for 5 nights on a solo trip to Mykonos. The hotel experience was a highlight of the trip from stepping off the plane until arrival back at the airport I felt cared for in style. Where the hotel excells: ||Staff: From seated check-in with a welcome drink, interactions with front desk, pool and breakfast team, the staff always had a smile was eager to help.||Complimentary Airport Transfers: Cabs & Ubers in Mykonos are either rare, expensive or both. The complimentary transfers to and from the airport directly to the hotel with meet and greet service made an international arrival stress-free!||The Rooms: Even the basic room is well designed and plush and with a large balcony and daybed. I believe all the rooms have a view of the sea.||Bedding & Pillows: The hotel has a pillow menu! Not the first property to do this, but it ensures you are going to have a great night sleep. The sheets were plush. I slept like a baby.||Breakfast: Impressive buffet of fresh fruits, juices and of course greek yogurt and honey but also a wide variety of savory dishes. They will make any egg dishes to order too which were fantastic. ||Air conditioning: If you want an icy cold room, you can have it! I have to call this out because in Europe it can notoriously hard to find good air conditioning, and Greece gets HOT. The air conditioning in my room was even better than...
