My wife and I stayed for 4 nights in room 218.|As we arrived when it was dark, I had pre-ordered a taxi through the hotel. On return, we took the bus, any number over 50, from the bus station, approx. every 30 minutes at about 1/8 of the cost! The journey took about 35 minutes, |Check in was friendly and quick. We were in room 218.||ROOM|It was predominantly blue décor with spacious, elegant furnishings comprising table, 2 seater sofa, 2 chairs, safe, desk and chair, fridge, tea/coffee, pod machine and kettle which I had requested in advance, tv, bed, huge windows with only the nets opening/closing as the blue curtains were only decorative. There was lots of storage space with hanging room, drawers and a space for cases. We had a small balcony, not big enough to sit on, with a sea view. Each bed side had a light control panel. A plate of fruit was provided, although unfortunately one of the apples was bad in the middle which one could not tell from the exterior. There was a box of 4 sweets. We were disappointed that the tea/coffee was not replenished during our stay. We had 4 Nescafe sachets, 2 teabags, 4 coffee pods and 4 milk/creams (one of these was replaced). There were tiny china cups or large, pyrex type goblets. The floor was carpeted. On 2 occasions, our room was serviced when we were at breakfast. I like it when the room is serviced early - the maids were very pleasant.||BATHROOM|There was a separate toilet, bidet and basin.|There was a spa bath with shower. To get in/out of the bath/shower a long wooden stool, screwed to the bath and with non slip grooves, was provided as the bath was so high. The shower worked very well, but we both had problems with water seeping on to the floor. Large dispensers of shampoo, shower gel and body lotion were provided. There were dental and sewing kits. There were many towels.||BREAKFAST|This opened at 8 a.m., late for us, but there were rarely other people there at 8 a.m. Tea/coffee and cooked food were ordered. We had the Greek omelette, which was delicious. Various breads, pastries, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, jams, oil, nuts, cold meats, cheese, salads were available at the buffet. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and thought the quality and choice excellent. Service was impeccable.||OTHER COMMENTS|Wifi worked well.|It was about a 10 minute walk to the Old town.|The public rooms of the hotel were attractively decorated with old photos. The rooms were immaculate.|The casino in no way impinged on the hotel.|All the staff we encountered were friendly, polite and helpful.|We had a marvellous stay in the hotel and would...
Read moreJust returned from a week here, holidaying with friends (another couple). The hotel itself is part of the building that houses the casino, and it is definitely a casino with a hotel attached, not the other way around (the casino gets the big grand front door, hotel is a side entrance). The restaurant and other common areas are very elegant and well maintained and the rooms are large and airy, if a little dated. Just a couple of niggles; the bathrooms all have deep jacuzzi baths and showers have been added (as an afterthought, it feels) over them. A wooden step is provided to help you get in and, along with slippery marble floors, it’s all a bit precarious. The shower itself was consistent in neither temperature nor pressure, which was another minor nuisance. My other major annoyance was the pool. Or, rather, the loud music played there. It was awful; loud, squeaky Europop. All day, every day. Just… why? It would have been lovely just to sit by the pool and read but it was impossible. It should also be noted that the rooftop bar (staffed by a gentleman with more than a passing resemblance to Richard Gere!), although lovely, can only be accessed via the casino which requires id, membership and a security check every time you visit. Having said all that, the hotel staff are amazing. Warm, friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and, when we had an issue with the air con in our room, they immediately offered us another room. The cheerful breakfast staff, the super helpful staff on reception, the lovely smiley housekeeping ladies and “Richard” in the cocktail bar are all some of the best hotel staff I’ve ever come across. Despite the niggles, I would happily stay here again. Thank you for a...
Read moreGrande Albergo Delle Rose is a true gem when it comes to historic hotels. Stepping inside feels like travelling back in time — this place even hosted Churchill during WWII. It’s beautifully maintained, with elegant touches that reflect its rich history. The hotel is also housed within the grand Casino Rodos, which adds to its sense of old-world luxury.
Location-wise, it couldn’t be better — right on the seafront and very central, with everything in Rhodes within easy walking distance. You can even gaze across the water toward Marmaris and the Turkish Riviera — it’s that close. The sea here is absolutely stunning: turquoise, crystal-clear, and refreshing, with air full of iodine and Mediterranean freshness.
The hotel is clean and well kept, and the staff were helpful and courteous throughout our stay.
However, a few things did take away from the overall experience. At night, loud music from nearby venues made it hard to relax or get a good night’s sleep — not ideal if you’re looking for peace and quiet.
Also, while the hotel boasts beachfront access, we were shocked to find that sunbeds cost up to €40 per day. For a five-star hotel where we’d already spent a small fortune, that felt excessive and frustrating. On the plus side, the hotel pool is free (though quite small), and it’s easy enough to pop down to the beach and then come back to the pool area to relax.
All in all, the setting is breathtaking, the building is full of character, and the Mediterranean environment is unbeatable — but a few modern issues take the shine off what could be a perfect...
