We had the pleasure of staying at the Mitsis La Vita (a four-star, half-board option) Located along the seafront in Rhodes Town, the hotel offers breathtaking views of the Aegean, with the Turkish coastline visible in the distance. The location was ideal, with the beach just across the road, where you can hire a subbed to soak in the Greek sun. There is a small pool and sun area guests can use, but come 3pm, the sun is around the rear of the hotel, leaving the pool area in the shade. This is a six-story hotel, and curiously the elevators stop on the fifth floor meaning you have to walk up to the final floor to access it. There are two elevators in this hotel and two separate staircases.
The staff at reception provided us with a warm and efficient welcome upon our arrival at 10pm on a Saturday.
Our stay was on a half-board basis, meaning breakfast was available in the hotel itself, while the evening meals were served at the nearby Mitsis Petit Palais.
We stayed in room 306, which was on the balcony side of the hotel. Although the view was partially obstructed by neighbouring buildings and restaurants, we still enjoyed a glimpse of the sea. While the sea-view rooms offer spectacular direct views, they come without balconies, featuring sliding doors that open to a balustrade. Personally, we preferred having a balcony, as it provided a private space to relax, even if the view wasn’t as dramatic.
The room was spacious and tastefully decorated, with gleaming marble floors throughout. The beds were comfortable singles that could easily be pushed together to form a double, with firm mattresses and pillows that made for a restful night’s sleep. Everything was impeccably clean, including the crisp linens. The bedside tables provided adequate storage, and the large fitted wardrobe offered plenty of space for a few weeks’ worth of clothing. The room also featured a handy unit with a fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a TV. While most channels were in Greek or German, we did have access to one English-language channel, BBC News.
The bathroom, also finished in marble, was a highlight with its powerful, invigorating shower. The complimentary toiletries are brilliant! Fresh towels were provided daily, and there was also the option to borrow beach towels from reception. The maids were attentive, ensuring the room was cleaned thoroughly each day.
Breakfast was served in the hotel’s main dining room, where a buffet offered a wide variety of choices. Depending on the time you arrived, it could get a little busy, but the selection more than made up for it. There were freshly baked breads, cold meats, eggs, sausages, bacon, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, honey, and plenty of tea and coffee. It was the perfect start to the day.
For dinner, we crossed over to the Mitsis Petit Palais, just a short walk from La Vita. There, the buffet offered a broad range of Greek and international dishes, both hot and cold. A particular favourite was the freshly made pizza, with a dedicated chef preparing new pizzas every few minutes. You could even request a custom pizza to be made to your liking. The food quality was excellent, and the staff provided impeccable service. Upon entering the restaurant, you were shown to your table and could order wine or beer to enjoy with your meal, with the option to either charge it to your room or pay at the end of the meal.
For those who wished to stay at the Petit Palais after dinner, there was entertainment in the bar area, running until 11pm, providing a relaxed and enjoyable way to end the evening.
Overall, the Mitsis La Vita and its neighbouring Petit Palais offered a delightful stay, combining comfort, quality service, and excellent dining options. The friendliness of the staff, coupled with the thoughtful amenities, made our time there truly enjoyable. The staff at both hotels are thoroughly professional and cannot do enough for you. Without hesitation, we would recommend any of the Mitsis hotels to friends and family looking for a memorable...
Read moreThe majority of the staff was absolutely wonderful, helpful and accommodating. This so-so review is not for them. Most of the ones I interacted with (evening reception, kitchen, dining room and bar) get 5 stars!
NOT a 4 star hotel and should not have those prices. The hotel itself had NO air conditioning in the lobby or the dining room. And the elevator door would not open no matter how many times or how hard you pushed. Once you got to your floor you never got off onto it. I tried and tried to open the door but to no avail. Then the interior door just closed again and I went back down to the lobby. Thankfully I was on the 2nd floor and just took my bags up that way. Also, I filtered my search to have "parking". This hotel claimed to have it. It did not. There was only street parking and very little of it because the streets are so narrow.
I reserved a room with a partial sea view but that's not what I got or what was displayed on their website. Paint peeling, old, non-functional intercom system, furniture from the 60's. Very much in need of an update. My "partial" view was the side of a wall and a ghetto store across the street (see photo). I had to maneuver myself to the corner of the small balcony and hang so far over it that I thought I was going to fall off just to get a sliver of a glimpse of the sea. The room was so ridiculously small that you kept whacking your leg against the bed to avoid hitting your hip on the desk just to get to the other side of the bed (see photo). The bathroom was so small that the door didn't open all the way because the toilet was there (see photo). There was no where to hang towels except for in the shower (see photo). That's where they had the towel bar. You will also bruise yourself trying to get into the shower because the space was so small. And I'm not an overweight person. The TV stations were odd. They only had Arabic, German and French. Housekeeping came up to help me and I finally got some English and Greek speaking ones but once I shut off the TV that setting was gone. Each time. The girl that checked me in was kind enough to switch my room the next day when another one became available. I think her name was Gabriela. She is ACES! I witnessed her interacting with a "Karen". All I can say is God bless her.
The next day I was transferred to the other room (thankfully on the 2nd floor again) and this did have a "partial sea view" but it was barely visible and the (very tiny) balcony faced all the apartment buildings next to it so suffice it to say I didn't use it and paid for the view for nothing. The apartment buildings were so close that I couldn't even have the curtains open. I also want to note that their rooms are definitely not sound-proof.
The morning reception was decent except I had a question about reserving an umbrella at one of the beaches the next day and they said "I don't if they take reservations". I couldn't understand why they just couldn't call to ask. It would have cost them nothing to do that but it didn't even dawn on them to help me out. Just "I don't know if they take reservations". They gave me a number (that didn't work) for me to call and ask. That was weird for me. Reception is supposed to help you with things like that.
They had a decent breakfast spread. I liked how you could choose your ingredients and take it to the lady to put them in your eggs. She also made-to-order crepes, pancakes, waffles, etc. The staff was fantastic and very on top of keeping their selections full and not running out. Their coffee is from a machine, however, and they don't have decaf coffee as an option. That was disappointing. They said I could go to the bar to get decaf and when I went there they only had Frappe and would have charged me for it. A 4 star hotel would have given it to me w/o charge. If you offer breakfast, coffee is a basic staple whether it's decaf or regular. Their orange juice is not real orange juice. The machine says "orange juice...
Read moreFrom the moment that we arrived, we were delighted at the personal and friendly service of the reception staff, particularly Michael. From check in to check out the staff were attentive to our needs. On the final day, we were allowed a free late checkout to 1pm and then booked a fre showere room at 5.30pm for 30 minutes with fresh towels a d toiletries provided. Our luggage was also stored in a secure luggage room.||The furniture and decor is homely, slightly dated but comfortable. The beds were particularly comfy with very efficient air conditioning. We were delighted at the efficient daily cleaning service with fresh bedding and towels refreshed every day.||We enjoyed relaxing in the terrace bar but were slightly disappointed at the scale of the building works acroos from the hotel and beach. However after 10 days, we realsied that it was a wonderful location and understood the need for Mitsis to upgrade their comple facing the hotel. Looking forward to visiting again when the new complex is complete.||The beach directly across from the hotel provided free sunbeds and towel from the hotel. we were always lucky to get sunbeds although there were a few days when other guests were not so fortunate. I really hope that Mitsis also address this issue when the new complex opens and perhaps allows guests of all 3 hotels to use the pools/beach facilities of all three to avoid disappointment. we never used the hotel pool as very small and seating area mostly shaded. One improvement would be comfier sunbeds and a few umbrellas in |this area.||The efficiency of tyhe breakfast staff and the choice of foods was good. The omelette/crepe chef was particularly friendly and impressive with her egg cracking skills. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive every morning. ||We also had excellent service from the hotel concierge and when there was an issure with travel arrangements fixed the issue promptly and very effectively.||We definitely plan to return and were lucky enough to be given a one night upgrade to the 5 start Mitsis Elia however, we loved our wee sdventure but still prefer the friendly and more personal vibe available at the lovely Mistsi La Vita. A final shout out to Michael, the friendly concierge, staff at the bar and the 'egg' lady. ||Highly recommended by James and Carole...two very...
