I wanted to spend New Year on Flores Island.||I found the Tayazal and booked a Twin Room with Fan for 6 nights to span New Year's Day. The booking was confirmed.||The room was meant to come with 2 Double Beds, a safe, private bathroom, tv with cable channels, balcony, fan, microwave, lake view, clothes rack, etc.||I arrived at the hotel and the man at reception didn't seem to know that I was coming.||He checked his emails and found my booking. He did not have a Twin Room available.||He put me into a dingy single room with no furniture and a grubby private bathroom. We agreed a discounted rate for this smaller room.||He said that my room would be available the next day.||The next day he showed me to another room that was only slightly bigger than the first one. Big enough to have the bed head up against the wall. There were none of the Twin Room facilities in this second room. The room was bare ... it had no furniture ... but he still wanted me to pay the full Twin Room price.||I declined the room.||He said that he had no others.||I left.||It really messed up my New Year plans. By now, most of the other hotels were already full. the ones that were not were too expensive.||In the end, I jumped on a night bus to Antigua.||The attitude of the reception (who, I think, was the owner of the hotel) was poor to say the least ... he just didn't seem to care.||The only positive thing that he did was to let me store my luggage in a safe room whilst I looked around for...
Read moreNo stars but they are super stars at scamming. We wanted a tour to crater azul. We paid 300 quetzales, normally 250 but paid extra 50 for food included. When we got to the actual restaurant we were supposed to have included lunch, they suddenly said lunch is not included and now we must pay. So the restaurant owners told us to talk to the tour guide and we should get our money back. we went back to the original tour guide and they suddenly raised the price. Now they’re saying no, it was 300 for the original tour and 350 for lunch. They also took down the advertisement saying they’re price was 250. They claimed they “changed their rates” but this is impossible as we paid 250 last night. despite it being maybe even a mistake, which it wasn’t, they refused to honor the rate they gave us and didn’t give us back our money. She also wouldn’t let us see the reciept book. We have reported them with the tourism agencies and the police. We hope this review reaches you and helps you make a decision that won’t be costly. We also found out that any theft under the amount of 100 quetzales is not considered a punishable crime. So watch out buying a tour, or staying there. Luckily we had a great time at Isla De Flores just a few blocks away and only had booked a one off tour from...
Read moreThis is by no means the lap of luxury, but at these prices who can argue? We checked in and stayed for three nights and fell in love with the island. The island of Flores is similar to Puerto Vallarta‘s little sister. There was no air-conditioning but that was OK. The nights are cool and comfortable. There was hot water and the beds were on par for central American budget hotels. The location is safe and easily walkable to countless restaurants and bars ||||There is an affordable laundry service just down the street and a fairly comprehensive Tienda next-door. Across the street is a great coffee house for the next morning. If I find myself in Isla de Flores again, I would stay here again. ||||The island and hotel are within driving distance to the to call Myon ruins. With my countless trips to Central America I had never seen ruins and was...
