Maple & Tocino — Restaurant in Flores

It was a Sunday early March. Our last day in Flores and out hunting for reasonably priced delicious breakfast. We almost walked around the whole town (around Church, east malecon, west malecon) before we decided...let's walk around the whole malecon and if we can't find anything, we'll just eat our energy bars at home. Likely because the Sunday Church is happening, most local food stalls are closed, and the ones open are expensive tourist traps (~Q45 to Q50 per plate). And plus the hubs is DESPERATE for a cappuccino (we were running caffeine-free for 9 days) - Cool Beans is closed on Sundays; most local joints serve drip instead of via espresso machine. We walked by and as a last ditch effort, we went into look at their menu. Prices are on par with others, they have an espresso machine, place looks modern and clean, they accept credit cards (no service fee), the food delivered to other customers looked great. SOLD! We ordered the Chicken Cacerole (Q44), and the cappuccino & donut combo (Q19). The cappuccino is huge and it is delicious! The chicken cacerole has a generous portion of eggs, chicken and cheese. The bread is soft and fluffy. Very tasty meal. And the view is wonderful. The restaurant overlooks the buildings across the water in San Miguel. WiFi is available and it is printed on your bill. Overall, great place to be....

You just landed at Flores airport. A shuttle drives you to the entrance of Flores island town, kicks you out the wrong side from the restaurant. You consider not making the pilgrimage to Maple&Tocino, but you are wrong. The slight incline of the direct route through town may be enough to secure you a table by deterring those who have not yet read this review. You weave through the buildings to find your seat on the deck awaiting you. The water lapping up against its foundations. The water, tranquil. The view, exemplery. The vibes, chill. You see the menu and go to order only to realise it’s all in Spanish and you’ve not kept your promise to achieve promotion in Duolingo. Your eyes take over. You order one of everything. And then you spot the waffle sharer. Why not? Just a treat to top it off? It arrives. You are famished. You gorge yourself on your order only to realise you’ve over ordered. Save yourself. Stop now. It’s time for the waffle sharer. The chicken is spiced and sweet to perfection. The pear and almond cleanses the pallet ready for the sweetness of the chocolate strawberry. All good times come to an end… 🥲 At least our last vacation meal together hit the spot just right! 😁 Word on the street was that some might have been unable to sleep due to the anticipation of delicious and fluffy waffles… 😅 And fluffy, delicious waffles is just what we got!! 🤤 Just imagine sitting right by the lake, the hot sun slowly melting your delicious iced coffee and the sweetness of Nutella / maple syrup and waffles is caressing your palate… … THAT to me is vacation! 🤩👌🏼

(P.S. They were even so nice that they made us our own descaffeinated coffe that we brought and they let me park my suitcase for a bit… How bice...
