Posada del Angel — Hotel in Sacatepéquez

Absolutely loved our stay at this charming hotel. Every room is picture-perfect, especially the common areas for breakfast and lounging around. There are a couple of key things I would be aware of before booking.

1. the entrance is not obvious at night. We arrived and thought we were at the wrong place! It looks closed, but if you ring the bell they will let you in (this is a security measure.)
2. we were in the blue room, and you can hear everything. The people across from you, people in the halls…for the most part people are quiet and scarce but we even felt guilty speaking loudly in our own room at night.
3. there is no heat! We are from Florida and get cold easily, so this probably isn’t an issue for most people. They are willing to make an in-room fire which is lovely and heats it up a bit. There are also extra blankets.
4. don’t skip breakfast! It is so nice to sit on the patio upstairs with the sun coming up (before it’s too hot), volcanoes erupting, and tropical flowers around you. You get to pick an entree to be paired with fruit, fresh juice, and fresh French press coffee. The kitchen is also willing to refrigerate items if you need (such as our champagne bottle we bought).

We rented a car and drove from the airport (not as scary as people online make it sound). Parking was across the street and free/secure with hotel validation.

This is the first review we have ever left for anything. It is also probably our last. We are generally quite private people, however, this was an experience that was (hopefully) once in a lifetime. Firstly, the hotel was beautiful, the backdrop (aqua volcano) was unique and the food was great, but that is not the main part of the story. We were some place very special. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short because of a serious medical emergency. We would have been in a seriously horrible and difficult place if it was not for the manager Anibal (I am very sorry if that is spelled incorrectly). This was one of the most difficult days of our lives. When we told him where we wound up for our emergency he set up a transfer to a medical facility which he highly recommended. He then personally came to check on us at the clinic (we thankfully already left) in the middle of the night. If not for him, i am not sure we would have made it home so quickly. He spoke with us to arrange emergency transport at 3:00AM — and we were safely in Guatemala City to make our last minute flight with time to spare. ||For those not expecting a medical emergency, the city is amazing and Anibal gives great recommendations for food. ||We travel as much as we can. Most of our experiences are good. As far as hotels go, they are made of brick and mortar. This experience really highlights that the experience really comes from the amazing people...

You approach the unassuming red facade with its large wooden doors and ring the bell. Moments later, the front desk welcomes you cheerfully, and as you enter Posada del Angel you are transported into a different world and time. I could not say enough about this hotel, from the beautiful interior, tasteful decoration, and 5 star service, our stay at Posada del Angel was absolutely incredible. The pool is stunning, with vines dangling down walls and flowers bursting from a beautiful fountain in the center. At mid day the whole thing is illuminated by the sun… as I entered I wished I could spend my whole summer in it, splashing around and laid out at its edges. The rooms are all unique and have books and period appropriate trinkets placed all around. Upon request they will build a fire for you, at which point you will feel like nobility of a different time. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace with views overlooking the volcano will have your morning off to a perfect start and was another highlight of the stay. The staff did everything in their power to accommodate us and make our stay as seamless and confortable as possible. Anibal and the team do such an amazing job, one of the best stays I have had.
