This has to be the most beautiful Thai restaurant I have ever visited (full disclosure: I still have never been to Thailand despite many personal invitations from friends there). The lush garden courtyard is open to the sky, and the tables run along each of the four "portales" (like porches but wider and better, and open to the courtyard). Truly elegant old Spanish/Mesoamerican architecture. And the service was exemplary! The sort of unobtrusive attentiveness, grace, and warmth that fine Guatemalan restaurants have so successfully cultivated over the centuries.
The food was 100% good... but only a few items rated that fifth star. The Thai basil chicken was certainly one of them. The spring rolls were also excellent: flaky crust, savory filling that was just right. The thai tea seemed sooo refreshing and perfect—but that might be because we had been craving thai food & chai for too long. Still, it was NOT the overly-syrupy stuff that passes for thai tea at some donut shops and cafes. This was authentic. Smoky-sweet loveliness. I was so happy!
I always try the yellow curry when visiting a Thai place for the first time; like the spring rolls and pad thai, it's a basic Thai dish, and if the basics are great, everything else probably will be too. The yellow curry at Thai-Wow was less complex than authentic Thai curry, but it was pleasantly sweet, subtly spicy. Good, an interesting alternative take on the classic dish, just not “excellent.”
Still, I wish I could give this place a 4.5 as it does merit more than a 4. Again, the setting, atmosphere, service, decor, architecture, that whole side of things was a 5+, but this is a restaurant after all, and the food is even more important than the setting.
I definitely recommend it, though. Try the thai basil chicken! We hope to return to try the pad thai (the fundamental that we missed this first time!) and a couple of their house...
Read moreAlthough there are many wonderful restaurants in Antigua Thai-Wow is hands-down my absolute favorite! The restaurant itself is beautiful and and I love sitting outside surrounded by a lush garden, great lighting and interesting artwork throughout. The atmosphere is wonderfully friendly and inviting. I love that the restaurant is open daily from 1pm onwards allowing for a late lunch or early dinner if desired. The food is fresh, delicious and overall outstanding. They offer many very authentic dishes such as PadThai, spring rolls and various curries which are hard to find in Antigua. The staff is super friendly and attentive and also know how to make a good Old Fashioned or Negroni… don’t miss this little gem of a restaurant when in town!
Nov 4, 2025 I once again had the great pleasure of visiting Antigua and enjoying a most delicious dinner at my favorite restaurant in town. The Thai-WOW team delivered at every level with great service, beautiful ambiance and delicious, fresh and authentic Thai food. The portions are very generous and plentiful. The same holds true for the masterful classic cocktails being served here. Although prices here may be a little higher compared to other local restaurants one is rewarded with top level hospitality and high quality ingredients. Worth every penny and then some!! I can’t wait to come back here on my next...
Read moreWe ordered tom yum gai and tom yum kung. After receiving the billI we noticed the price of the dish was more than double the price I saw in the menu.
I asked the staff about it and was told that the prices have been changed recently. It turned out my husband got the recently updated menu, but mine still had the old prices in it (the same prices which I found in the menu posted by the restaurant on google maps two months ago). I was charged the double of what I thought the dish would cost. I did not get any apologies, nor was I offered to pay the lower price (according to the menu I got). The waiter just kept repeating they changed the prices and admitted it was possible that I got the old menu.
The strange thing was, the dish we ordered was the only one from the front page of the menu which changed the price (from 85 to 165 quetzales for tom yum kung since January).
Another thing - a 15% tip was already included in the bill, but still the waiter did not bring back the change. I asked him for it and was told that I actually paid a little bit too less, but that it is alright. I was sure I paid more. He revised it and brought the change.
The food was ok. Too sweet and bland for our taste. Definitely not "spicy hot & sour"...
