I stayed two nights at Hotel Vera, I’d read some relatively questionable reviews before my trip so was concerned, but when I arrived I needn’t have worried. The only issue I had was the email with my check-in instructions had the wrong room number so I had to call to ask why I couldn’t get in, however they answered very quickly and let me know which room was actually mine. My room was extremely spacious, had a nice balcony overlooking Laugavegur, an amply equipped kitchen, a nice shower and a very comfortable king size bed. In terms of location, it was about a 10 minute walk into the centre of Reykjavík, but Laugavegur has a lot of bars and shops along it which you can enjoy on the way. It’s also closely situated to two grocery stores for any food / drink you may need (I found cooking at the hotel to be a good way to save money while there). Great blackout curtains meant the sunlight at night didn’t bother me at all.

I joked that this is a great introvert hotel. Because there is no desk and no one to hand you a key. When booking your hotel, the staff will communicate very well with you, setting expectations and letting you know if your room is read ahead of your check-in time to make your experience a bit easier. You'll be given instructions on how to enter and the code to your room, which you'll find to be clean, quiet and like a little apartment in downtown Reykjavik. Parking is simple, about a block away there is a garage. Just pull in, park and pay at the kiosk when you leave. Very easy. Everything is in walking distance and you'll feel like a local with your own little nook to rest after a long day of exploring the magic of Iceland. Very highly recommend.

Very comfortable, superb location, well-equipped kitchen, great overall condition. Highly recommended for those who prefer quality over price. PS. Please read instructions carefully and you will easily get into your room without calling a support. We did it at 4 am from the first try. I don’t really understand those reviews where people complained about the absence of greeting desk at hotel. What for do you need it, if everything is like a clockwork :-) Enjoy you stay in Iceland & Vera

This is not a hotel. There is no staff on site there is no front desk and nowhere to check your luggage. There are keypads on the doors that are very sensitive and when you get locked out the response is to wait a few minutes and it will reset. You have to enter through a restaurant to access the elevator. There is a flat screen TV as the description says but there are only streaming services. We woke up without power and finally reached someone who walked me through a number of steps to troubleshoot including finding a breaker box in a storage room and shutting off power to one breaker at a time across the entire floor to no avail. We waited nearly 2 hours untll someone came to fix the problem so our day was messed up, we had to change our plans and they were not amenable to giving us a couple of extra hours to check out to make up for the time we were without power. The bad experience started with a message that we received shortly after our payment went through and we could no longer cancel telling us that there was no towel or cleaning service for our 6 night stay unless we paid €19 per day for the service. If we had known this before our payment was processed we would have cancelled. I believe this was timed by them and thus consider...

This was an absolutely bizarre experience I never want to relive. When we arrived, the outside keypad wasn’t working so we had to call the customer service number and get in through a closed restaurant. When we got upstairs, a man walked out of our room… we opened the door and there was a woman smoking cigarettes IN our room. We called the customer service number and had to ask them to leave ourselves as there are no employees in this “hotel.” They took off, and it became apparent they had entered through the balcony because the doors are difficult to lock. The customer service number gave us a new room, and that balcony was difficult to lock as well. There is definitely a massive security issue with squatters here. Truthfully I didn’t want to stay, but we had already paid. The keypads are borderline nonfunctional and they changed the code to our room 3 hours into our stay without notice, so we were hard locked out and had to call customer service again. I probably called them 12 times in the 1 night we stayed here. In order for this concept of no staff to work they need to atleast have keypads that work. The room itself was fine, but the bed sheets had hair on them. Please do yourself a favor and book literally...
