This was my 3rd visit to Iceland, and the first trip in the summer. This was, by far, the largest room that I've gotten. One of the others you couldn't open your suit case anywhere except on the bed because there was just NO room. House of the Spirits was spacious, the kitchenette small but workable for cooking dinner for 4 adults. The bathroom is TINY, but everything worked and mine had no mold or soap scum issues at all. The linens are not new, but everything was clean, matching and free of stains. Being so close to the town center did make it a bit noisy at night, so you might want earplugs. ||||The Yellow house was clean and in pretty good repair for student-like housing. The area might look "shabby" to some, but it's really just old. If you want new construction, shiny new appliances and large bathrooms, you'll need to book a room at one of the BIG (expensive) hotels, or drive to the suburbs. Parking in an issue all over the downtown area, so plan on paying a fair amount or walking quite a few blocks. The few areas that had free parking a few years ago have shrunk to a few spots with restrictions on days or times. ||||Getting used to having windows open ALL YEAR long takes some work..... but since the heat is basically free, that's what is done here. There are no temperature thermostats in the county that I've seen! It's open the window more, or turn the radiators up a bit!||||The front door is usually unlocked, but your room has 2 locks and is secure. If Gunnar isn't around his assistant is, and there are other staff members that are helpful as well. ||||The fridge had a small carton of plain yogurt and a quart of milk. There was coffee, tea, marmalade, jam and muesli in the room. In a cabinet in the common area were some "left overs" from other guests.....there were packets of cookies, rice, noodles, spices, etc. There are 3 different stores in a few minutes walk, including a 24-hour 10-11 store. The kitchenette had dishes for 4, a skillet, and 4 pots. Serving plates, bowls, coffee cups and a wine service. The knives are pretty dull, but I was able to make due. A microwave, toaster, electric kettle and a drip coffee maker. There were 2 different french presses as well. ||||There was a large fire extinguisher in our room as well as a fire smothering blanket. There is no fire escape and the stairs are a steep twisting affair. The laundry is in the dark basement, but the...

Have stayed at the same place twice in the trip. As always the place was impeccable. It is neat, clean and with many amenities : hair dryer, heater water in bathroom, kettle, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, towels, face towels, WiFi, streamlined check in or check out, food like milk, curd, tea bags, salt, pepper, oil, muesli, hot chocolate and so on.. If you're lucky, past tenants may have kindly left pasta, cornflakes, rice and many other food items. Gunnar and his helper have also kept Iceland tour guides and Reykjavik city guides throughout the place. There is a small TV in the common area on the floor too. The bathroom is inside the room only and is completely private. Would totally recommend the place for stay in Reykjavik near shops and the main restaurants area. All sightseeing points are within 10-15 minutes walking...
