We recently booked two rooms here for a week, and loved our stay immensely. ||We opted for the two independent rooms vs renting the family apartment and definitely thought it was the better deal, as it meant that we both had free access to the garden and copious amounts of fresh air. However, if you’re a larger group, then I suppose the 3-bedroom family apartment would give you more privacy, as a whole. ||The view from the upper bedroom was particularly delightful. It overlooked the small lane just outside the property (great for people watching) and the nearby paddy field. We spent every night on that balcony, eating dinner, enjoying coffee or just chatting into the night with a bottle of wine. ||There was also a daily cleaning service, which was awesome. ||A few things to note: ||- the property is not completely private when you book it, as there are five guest rooms in total, plus the family who lives on the property itself. However, despite having the most exposed rooms (especially the ground-floor room), we didn’t feel intruded upon at all, and the family kept to themselves the whole time we were there. ||- the family also have two small dogs on the property, which I loved, but understandably that might be an issue to some people. ||- no fridge/minibar in the two standalone rooms, although there is a small fridge in the family suite. It wasn’t a huge issue, but it would have been nice to have one to keep a store of cold drinks in. ||- the lane leading into the property is very narrow and most cars cannot drive fully into, which can be a bother if you have larger or a lot of luggage. There’s usually a 200m trek from the furthest point a car access to the property itself. ||- while it is pretty much in Ubud Central, the villa is about a 400m walk to the main road. While it is easy to take a motorbike-taxi back to the villa from the main road, you’ll usually have to walk out on your own (I enjoyed this morning walk and looked forward to it, though.) But it would be a significant point to note for anyone with mobility/accessibility issues. ||- the location tag for this property is wrong, by the way. It is located on Jalan Sandat, closer to Ubud Market than the Monkey Forest.||Definitely a bargain for what we paid though. I’m definitely booking it for my next...
Read moreWe spent 5 nights at Kamol House in July 2017, and we found the experience very pleasing. ||The good: The family and staff at the house were very accommodating and friendly, allowing us to move rooms, store our bags when we checked out, and arranged airport transfers. We stayed with our young daughter, so required an extra bed in the room, and it was really big for a 'spare bed'. The rooms were clean and presentable, with everything in good working order. The breakfasts were simple, but tasty. There are a few small children and small dogs that live in the house (downstairs) and they were very friendly and played Lego with our daughter! The house is in a quiet location, but only a short walk from the main street (10 mins on a slight hill). We asked about somewhere to take our laundry, but the staff told us to leave it with them and they would arrange it to be collected, washed and returned the same day - wonderful! The A/C worked well and we had some free water on arrival.||||The not-bad-but-could-be-better: The first room we were in (#2) had a shower that would leak all over the bathroom, and there wasn't any ventilation (no windows) so there was a constant musty smell. As we needed a bath for our daughter, we asked to move rooms, and this was no problem, although we had to upgrade at a further cost. The second room's bathroom was also a bit tired and could do with a facelift, but for the price of the house, it was perfectly adequate. There isn't any road access to the house, so the taxi dropped us off on the main road and we had to walk with our bags down a dark path for a couple of minutes. The manager met us with a moped, and took some of our backpacks which was...
Read moreWe booked via booking.com. It was under £14 a night per room, including a cooked breakfast. ||||Our taxi driver had some difficulty finding the address as it is not on a road! Perfect for the tranquility of open countryside as you are surrounded by rice fields. However, it is still only a 15 minute stroll into town. I am sure it is safe but the woman in our party said she would not have liked to walk back alone after dark. You certainly need a torch. ||||The family who run the hotel are extremely kind and friendly, especially the father - a talented gardner and artist. The grounds are immaculate and he is responsible for much of the traditional artwork which adorns the rooms. ||||There are just four bedrooms, three in one building with there own sitting and kitchen area - so perfect for a family with children. The rooms are huge, spotlessly clean and with very comfortable beds. The only thing which was lacking is a TV, although there is one in the breakfast area. There is free wifi, but the reception was somewhat intermittent at times. One bedroom had a bath while the others had showers. The water was piping hot. Soap and shampoo are provided. The bedrooms have balconies from which you can enjoy the views. I had a coconut tree in front of mine from which I could almost have reacted out to touch the fruit!||||Breakfast is simple but good: a choice of tea of coffee; a lovely bowl of fresh fruit; and a choice of egg dish.||||Kamol House is simply a lovely place to rest and recharge...
