It is hard to articulate the wonderful experience that is a stay at Locanda Pane e Vino. The location is fabulous - stepping out of the doorway one faces breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside, while moving a few paces down the road puts you into the heart of Cortona with its cobblestone streets lined with shops, restaurants, art galleries, and open-air markets. The place itself is delightful. It retains the medieval charm of the area, while offering all the amenities one could desire from a recent renovation. B&B-type rooms are adorned with classic Tuscan style and equipped with modern conveniences such as strong wi-fi, air conditioning, a mini-fridge, and a very nice shower with toiletries provided. The hotel owner, Debbie, could not be more attentive to guests. Every morning, she provided us with a selection of delicious, home-made cake and marmalade, fresh fruit, cheese, cured meat, coffee to order, etc. - in the most charming courtyard. The courtyard, with its decorative touches (while also equipped with wifi) serves as an oasis to unwind from a day of sight-seeing, or an opportunity to plan the next adventure, perhaps with a glass of wine. It should be mentioned that Debbie's hospitality did not end with the clean lodging or plentiful food services - she even provided us with transport to the train station - perhaps pitying travelers with far too much luggage, but most likely out of a genuinely good and caring nature. This magnificent place contributed to a phenomenal experience. If - or when - I return to Cortona, my stay will undoubtedly be here, at Locanda...
Read moreAbsolutely wonderfu! We have stayed all over Italy and fine places in the US. This is one of our favorite places to stay, and probably the best hospitality of all. I don't how I can possibly add to other reviews here but I'll try. I returned home from Italy Oct. 1 and have been very busy back at work, but I wanted to take a few moments to review. We stayed at Locanda Pane e Vino in Spring 2014 and I returned September 2015 to stay 8 nights. To sum it up. It's like going to stay with cherished friends who are obsessed with providing you the cleanest, most comfortable lodging experience, ready to assist you in your local touring plans however possible, while balancing all that perfectly with respect for your privacy. There are no awkward moments, only friendly ones. Laughter and meaningful conversation define your interaction with your primary host Debora. She is a wonderful host and works very hard. In my view, she sets the standard for hospitality. Debora prepares a wonderful breakfast and delicious desserts, and cappuccino. The location in Cortona is perfect as it's nestled back on a private quiet street but quickly accessible to the main corso ,and center of town, but also Piazza Garibaldi to catch shuttles, tour drivers, and the escalator to the public parking below. I highly recommend Locanda Pane e Vino for your stay. No symbolism over substance here. Quite the opposite. We will return and the...
Read moreReliably....because the owners have such great integrity. I've stayed here two different times, a week or more each trip, since my last review. Your primary host is Debora, and she is such a friendly, warm, hard working lady, that you will miss her and this place when you leave. I've said all I can say before, so just trust me on this. This is a wonderfully relaxing, quality place to call home. Nothing pretentious going on here. It is situated perfectly. A short walk to Piazza Garibaldi where shuttles and taxis arrive and depart. And close to the main corso and historical center of Cortona. It's tucked back on a charming narrow street so characteristic of such a historical medieval place, such that you'll enjoy peace and quiet as you relax at the Locanda. Your hosts speak very good English, so much better than my Italian will ever be, which some may find very helpful to know. You stay here and you will see. Wonderful rooms, breakfast, conversation, hospitality, respect for your privacy, and going the extra mile here and there to help guests however they can. What more could...
