I just returned from six nights at Casa Chilenne, which I booked last minute for a writing retreat, returning to Cortona after an eighteen-year absence. I could not have chosen a better place to stay or found a more perfect hostess. I look forward to a return trip!||||Here are the reasons you should book your Cortona stay here (many of which have already been noted in the many glowing reviews below):||||Location:||||The B&B is located close to the end of the only flat, and main street in Cortona, where most of the shops, bars and restaurants are located (and an excellent gelateria a few steps from the front door). The primary entry point for cars in the traffic-limited centro storico is at this end of the street in Piazza Garibaldi (with some of the best views overlooking the valley), which is not only useful for meeting tour guides for trips out of town but is the drop-off and pick-up location for the shuttle (1.50 each way) to the train station. It's an easy two-minute walk with your luggage to the front door. The house is a good midpoint from the main piazza to the right five minutes walking, and the local park to the left five minutes walking, with fountain, benches and more views.||||Accommodations:||||Chairlifts on all of the staircases ideal for those with mobility issues, and handy for transporting luggage up and down. Rooms are spotlessly clean and well-appointed, with great lighting, generously-sized bathroom with plenty of space on a separate cabinet to spread out all my toiletries, very good water pressure and no issues with water temperature--I like a HOT shower, ample closet space (well-designed), and well-functioning AC. I was in "Il Nido"--the Nest--on the top floor, which also had a small balcony opening to the back courtyard. As noted by other reviewers, outside of that room is a communal living space and kitchen, as well as a roof terrace, which I had to myself for all but the last day of my stay; however, after 10pm it is to be used exclusively by whoever is in the top floor guest room.||||I did have an issue with my bed the first night as I prefer a little more cushioning and a softer pillow, and Jeanette rectified it immediately by adding a memory foam and finding the perfect soft pillow to add to the 4 already in the room. ||||Breakfast:||||Best breakfast I've ever had in a B&B. Eggs, waffles, pancakes, bacon, made to order and cooked perfectly. Yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, Italian meats and cheeses, fresh- breads, home-baked muffins and pastries, cakes and tarts. Wonderful cappuccino and a full bottle of water at the table each morning. ||||Jeannette:||||Having worked in the tourist industry even before she and her husband decided to open a B&B, it's clear that Jeannette knows how to take care of travelers. Aside from well-thought out restaurant recommendations, and information about local events that one might have missed, she provided a warm, welcoming atmosphere for all. Moreover, without my asking, she offered a small discount because I had booked a longish-stay at the last-minute. She was also immediately responsive when I was making the booking late at night two days before my arrival. ||||||I stay in well over a dozen hotels/inns/B&B's a year, and I have no hesitation giving Casa Chilenne five big stars and two very big thumbs up. Thank you ,Jeannette, for a...
Read moreMy sister and I stayed at Casa Chilenne for eight days and had the best stay ever at Jeanette’s BnB in Cortona, Italy. She is an outstanding hostess/owner and goes above and beyond to make your stay special. We both had our own rooms and bathrooms, which were were spacious, clean and well appointed. The rooms and bathrooms were cleaned daily. The building is four stories so there are a lot of stairs and luckily there is also a chair lift to all floors. No cars are allowed on the streets, which are cobblestone, so bring good walking shoes. We did not rent a car and were able to use the bus and train system which were very easy to navigate. The location of the BNB is less than a two minute walk to the bus stop and is a great central location for all your needs. One of the highlights of our stay was Jeanette’s delicious pastries that were made by her daily along with cappuccinos or espressos to start the day. She also made us delicious omelettes with bacon and veggies, which were also scrumptious. Jeanette also arranged activities for us that were very enjoyable. We went to a local ceramics class to make souvenirs, a cooking class to make pasta at a vineyard where we could taste our creations along with wine tasting, a trip to Orvieto to discover the underground tunnels and caves of that beautiful town, The Convent de Le Celle, and tours of Cortona to see the amazing views, churches and museums. Although Cortona is a small town, there’s a lot to see and do, plus it’s a short distance by train to see other towns in the Tuscan area. If you’re looking for a memorable Italy experience, this is the place to go. Thank you Jeanette for making our stay so special...
Read moreWe selected this accommodation based on the reviews. Believe me all the 5 star reviews are genuine. All correspondence with Jeanette was promptly replied to , which was very assuring, As we were staying for 12 nights and booked well in advance we occupied the top floor room, which is adjacent to the small lounge with cooking facilities, and the terrace. Our room was very comfortable, lots of storage, and the bathroom was twice the size of some hotels, and a bonus was an opening window, so no need for an extractor,|The location is ideal, close to the town centre in a traffic free street.|Jeanette is indeed a perfect hostess. Her breakfasts suit everyone, fruit, cooked breakfasts, homemade pastries and cakes all available. Her knowledge of the town is total, restaurants, bus timetables, nearby attractions, just ask. Also taxi connections to the nearby stations all ordered in advance.|Because of our age we did not have a hire car, but we were happy to arrive by rail and on Jeanette's advice travel to some nearby towns, as well as Florence. |Please have no doubts about staying at Casa Chilenne, Jeanette will help make your...
