Scara e Beo — Restaurant in Cortona

It’s very hard not being able to eat dairy or meat while traveling in Italy, as there are not a lot of options. Finding Scara e Beo was like finding the holy grail. With everything being vegan and sounding so delicious, I honestly could’ve ordered any item off the menu and been happy. I ended up ordering the tortelli and tempeh, with the semifreddo for dessert. Everything was incredible - taste, plating, quality, and quantity. And while I did not order any drinks, I heard other customers around me raving about theirs. On top of all that, the service there was wonderful. This restaurant is nestled in one of the most photographed alleys in Cortona and represents everything you think about Italy, character, beauty, and uniqueness. The food and drinks are all prepared to the highest quality and originality. Vegetarian entrees elevated on both flavor profile and plating. The creativity of each entree are truly noteworthy. There were six in our party which allowed for each of us to try a different option and share with each other. First, know that our group of 9 loved Cortona, and one of our favorite experiences was what we encountered when we stopped into Giu for late night cocktail. A hidden treasure! Walking in we were met with a warm smiling face and a genuine welcome from Antonio (he and his brother are the owners). The vibe is old world meets modern with cool jazz playing in the background, fusion and classic drinks from the bar at this several hundred year old room (converted to a bar from the family home in 2018) and hospitality that makes you feel like family.
