So I'll start with the good. The hotel is beautiful, the lobby is picture worthy. The hotel is also well located. It's close to a lot of good restaurants, shopping, and the main tourist sites.
The room is small as others have mentioned, however we knew that and didn't care - it is Milan afterall. The bed was comfortable and the room served its purpose. The bathroom was small but functional.
While I appreciated having a breakfast available, it was not the best, we've had much better in other hotels in Milan.
Now for the bad:
Upon arriving at the hotel and checking in we immediately had issues. We purchased the hotel room using Google Pay, which has a safety feature that creates a virtual credit card number different than the one on your physical card. The hotel staff demanded that we provide them with the card we used to purchase the hotel room to prove to them that we were the ones who actually purchased the room. We had issues because of Google Pay's virtual card number change. To them it did not matter that the name on the card, the reservation, and the names in our official passports ALL matched. Not even the email receipt we had of the purchase satisfied them.
She was going to cancel our reservation, refund it, and redo the reservation on our physical card at the updated more expensive current rate for that night. However, luckily after about 15 mins of my husband and I searching, I was able to find the charge in my credit card statement from months prior and prove we bought it. This was absolutely insane and completely unacceptable considering our passports matched the name on the card and reservation. This felt like a thinly veiled attempt at a money grab on unsuspecting foreign tourists. We were on our honeymoon, It begs the question "What would have happened if my family bought us that room as a gift?" Our name would not have been on the card - it would have been an expensive nightmare.
Moving on;
The first night, my husband and I and a group of four other folks staying at the hotel were unable to access the hotel at approximately 1130pm for about 10 to 15 minutes. The automatic doors wouldn't open, the doorbell went unanswered many times, the hotel key cards didn't work on anything, and no one picked up the multiple phone calls from multiple worried and increasingly upset people. When we finally got inside, the look on the staff's faces behind the counter said it all - they knew they messed up and they knew we were upset. I just remember thinking to myself "omg are we going to have to find a different place to sleep tonight?! this late at night, in Milan?!" A hotel customer should never have that thought running through their head. Completely unacceptable.
I'm willing to give this hotel the benefit of the doubt that this experience was some fluke and wont happen again. It did not happen to us again during the following nights that we stayed there. However, I spent the rest of our stay worried we would run into the issue again.
All that being said, I will not stay at this hotel again and can not in good faith recommend it to anyone. 2 stars only because the room was decent and the hotel...
Read moreSenato is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. This was the last hotel on our honeymoon trip and we had high hopes as most pictures of the hotel seemed wonderful and well designed. The minute we arrived there were many issues. First, there was no designated storage area for luggage. The front desk had all of the luggage that was being held prior to check-in, in the lobby and out in the open right next to the front doors. Second, we got up to our room and it was absolutely disgusting. The entire room was not cleaned well (i.e. hair on the bathroom floor and arm chair, dirty bidet, toothpaste drippings on the bathroom floor, room not vacuumed, white smudges all over the tv, trash inside sculpture on the bedside table, brown staining on the bottom of the white curtains, poor drainage in shower and sinks). I slept on top of the bed and didn’t even shower here. We debated switching hotels but we had a very early flight the next morning and decided to stick it out. Also, we paid $500-ish for the room and the rate listed on the site during our stay was $200-ish. Location is fine and not far from the Duomo or shopping area, but it is located in a bit of a sketchier, outskirt area of town. I would definitely NOT consider this a...
Read moreMUST READ!!! Terrible terrible experience! We luckily uncovered a serious operation going on in the hotel. The cleaning crew was stealing money and jewelry from rooms checking out. When we discovered our stuff had been stolen, we spoke with people staying in other rooms to make sure of our claim and indeed they had their stuff stolen as well. Understandably so, the hotel staff were reluctant to call the police initially. However, once they realized the gravity of the situation, they made the call, and the police came. It didn’t take them too long before finding all the goods. Although our maid was the only one taken away, we suspect she was not working alone as tens of thousands of dollars worth of cash and goods were stolen. We also found out that the cleaning staff are hired through an external company. At the price you pay, it was very disappointing to find out that they have no control over their staff. The worst part is that the hotel management did not even contact us to offer their apology. It seems as though they don't care what transpired in their hotel. You expect much more from a hotel with this...
