1880 Atypical Rooms — Hotel in Rome

People who book a room at Atypical Rooms should be aware of a few things: |- The hotel consists of 6 rooms on the 3rd floor of a building. (which means 4th floor if you count it the American way)|- There is a very small and very slow elevator. We mostly walked up and down the stairs so we had no problems with it. But if you have mobility problems, you may hate this. |- The room that we got had no door to the bathroom. And the shower is separated from the bed with a glass wall. Which means that you can see the person taking a shower and that you can hear all the noise from the toilet. Zero privacy whatsoever. It's probably ok for a couple, but I wouldn't recommend that for friends or mother-daughter/son. =) |- Most of the time, there's nobody at the reception. So you're on your own most of the time. But if you need anything, you can text the hotel (WhatsApp) and they're very fast in responding and very helpful. We ran into the cleaning staff a few times, and they were all very nice. |- The location is in Monti area. Not super busy or touristy. A lot of restaurants in the back. We liked the location. But it's not really in the center of tourist attractions, so you will have to walk quite a bit to go to places. ||All in all, we enjoyed our stay and I would come back. But I am fully aware that this may not be good for everybody. Please make sure that you're ok with walking up the stairs and no privacy in...

Stayed here for one night. This was our last night of our Amalfi/Tuscan vacation, so we just wanted a cozy, clean, reasonable place to stay in a central location to walk to some of the tourist sites and crash before our early AM flight. It was perfect for our needs. ~10-15 walk to coliseum, many restaurants and shops close by. The room was modern, super clean and comfortable. No one was at the reception desk, but we WhatsApp'd their sister hotel next door and received a quick response with check in instructions. 24hr reception is available two doors down so you're not completely 'alone' if you have questions/needs. Shout out to Giovani at the front desk for helping us get a taxi at 5am.||Pro tip: Hotel transfers are usually more expensive than taxis. Taxis charge a flat fee of 50 euro and easily accessible. I cannot share the details of the rooms/service/location because 1880 Atyical Hotel unexpectedly cancelled my reservation via booking.com. I suspect this is because the Ryder Cup is in Rome that weekend - so they wish to charge more (I booked at £595 and suddenly the same room went up to £1700) I booked using a valid credit card, with payment due on arrival at the hotel. Despite this, the hotel began to try and 'test' the validity of my card and somehow decided it was not valid. (It is valid). They then used this as an excuse to cancel my booking without warning. I have tried to speak to the hotel, but Andrea, the manager told me to simply 'rebook' but he would not honour the original price - even after I offered to pay upfront 6 months before our stay with a my VALID card. This has left me without a hotel room for my 40th birthday...
