Sa Tanca Crostaceria — Restaurant in Rome

MAYBE ROME has its own “good” seafood standard?!…The service and atmosphere was great, but the seafood, errrrrrr…Not sure why, but usually this level of seafood restaurant is(should be) decent…but this time it was really NOT good! I can’t say it’s not fresh since I’m not having any stomach issue, but I grew up along the ocean and try to taste seafood wherever I go, and maybe inside Rome, this is the standard of the okay seafood?!…Ordered the raw platter, except for the raw red shrimp(like any well defrosted red shrimp taste as good), nothing has the sweet and tasty umami taste like the usual fresh seafood does. Took two clams and full of sands, razor clam has no taste(had to abandon the rest)…and tried the conch which even had bad smelly smell(didn’t want to try the rest🤢)… The grilled red shrimp with smelly smell indicating it wasn’t fresh but frozen…which what I ate at Florence last year was soooooo much better! (Isn’t Rome nearer to the sea than Florence?!)… had to throw away half of the raw seafood platter and some grilled red shrimps because I feel hurt just if continue...

I was very skeptical that this place was going to be worth the money since it's much more expensive than other places close by. Unless you're going to go to a Michelin one star I can't imagine a better dinner. We sat down and were given a half glass of very good proseco to help our menu selection process. We were also given a "gift from the chef" as a small appetizer to get our pallets excited. I had tuna tartar which was one of the best preparations I've had. Wife had shrimp risotto which had deep flavors. We shared a salt crusted Cod which turned out to be out of this world. Perfectly cooked and served table-side it was served with some tomatoes and light sauce. Waiter did a perfect job serving and getting almost all the bones out which I know is difficult to do. Desert was a chocolate lava cake...

This was a really amazing evening, we enjoyed every minute of it. First that we got on the short hand a table and second because the food was just so fantastic. We had the raw platter for 2 person and I just can say it was delightful. First time in my life i had some very red scampi from Sicily, special breed special taste. The interesting thing on them is that they are slightly sweet, really something very special, I just can recommend this to everyone. Then my Spaghetti Vongole, I think they were the best I ever had! At the end a special grappa with a light caramel taste just very amazing. If you like fish and want to enjoy an amazing evening go there and spend some money It will...
