We send an e mail to the owner of the hotel in advance of our stay at the accommodation to say we would be arriving later than the usual latest check time of 6.30 pm. Dominico the owner was very helpful in that he arranged for a Taxi to pick us up at the hotel and met us when we arrived at around 10.15. He was very helpful and wrote out the names of various places of good value near to the accommodation. One recommendation was a restaurant within a minutes walk and called Porto di Ripetta gave excellent food of good value and service for evening meals on two separate occasions . Another was Domi situated along the Via Van taggio was reasonably priced and friendly. The accommodation itself is quite quirky in that these are cellar rooms. Our room was i think the one shown above. The room was clean and comfortable with a good shower room and plenty of storage for clothes. The Bed was comfortable and the room temperature was fine, There was a coffee machine in the hotel reception area providing capachino coffee or tea at no charge. ||The accomodation is ideally located near the Piazza del Popolo and in walking distance of the Vatican and many other ancient sites but also near lots of restaurants ||Dominico the owner was we found a very helpful and charming host. The accommodation is stated as bed and breakfast but is accommodation only but it would not be reasonable to expect breakfast to be included at this price which was we feel was...
Read moreI booked this property online... supposedly, I was getting a super-deal from something like 500$ to 100$ per night, so I was excited. At the time, there were so many beautiful pictures, and luxurious amenities that I thought I had gotten really lucky. First issue, when we called for the airport pick-up which was included, the receptionist said we had called too late (the day before) so he couldn't send the shuttle. So, we paid for the airport shuttle and showed up at the property. The entrance was by a small, hidden alleyway into a basement! The room wasn't dirty but it had a moldy smell and no windows. We couldn't believe the deception from what the listing had shown us. The receptionist, after seeing our initial reaction, told us that if we wanted to change properties "he didn't have a problem" with it. Although we had been travelling for over a full day and had paid our own shuttle, we didn't stay here because even after agreeing with us that the listing was misleading, the receptionist said that it was our fault for not reading all the reviews! Very frustrating experience. Do...
Read morerifugio iis located in via del vantagio in the centre of rome, meters away from piazza del popplo & via del corso. the building is ancient (aprrox. 2000 years old!!), with only 5 suites available you should made an early booking, the rooms are spacious yet cosy, the bathroom is excellent, only the TV was a bit tiny, but what really made the stay exceptional was the hospitality of Nico (the owner) : he waited for us outside and help us with the luggage, gave us a map of the city after explaining it to us and marking all the important activities we could do for the city, gave us all the do and donts as a native roman, and recommended to us the greatest gelato place in rome "la romano", book us limo for the ride back to the airport, all with a big smile and a kind heart.||rifugio is highly recommended , and with its great location we went every where during our 7 days stay by foot. ||(note: the place is old and underground, so there were no windows and it was a little a bit dampy but it was hardly noticeable in our...
