Re Monti Guesthouse — Hotel in Rome

We arrived at the Re Monti hotel around 10 pm. The owner/manager communicated very clear directions on how to access our room, which was appreciated.

However, the room itself was the worst we stayed in during our entire trip. The toilet had a sign that to flush, you had to "press strong twice and keep pressing." I figured it out with determination after the first failed attempts, my son managed it after a number of attempts, and my daughter never did manage to figure it out. I had to do it for her.

The room faced the street, and even with the windows and drapes closed, we heard every noise. The air conditioner periodically made such loud clanging noises throughout the night that we thought the unit was about to separate from the wall and crash, and then shortly after we turned out the lights, there was a bright light that flashed with regularity above our heads. Sitting up and waiting until it happened again, we discovered that it was the carbon monoxide detector. I hung a sweater over it so we could sleep, but then I couldn't fall asleep because I was worried we wouldn't wake up due to carbon monoxide poisoning, even though a quick Google search indicated that we were probably alright. (It didn't flash when the lights were on.)

And then there were the sheets- scratchy and uncomfortable, but the bed I shared with my daughter was a good size.

We didn't eat the breakfast, though I was going to get some coffee, but apparently another guest tried to use the machine and it wasn't working.

The location was decent- about a 12-15 minute walk from Roma Termini.

A primo impatto, appena entrati in struttura ha fatto una buona impressione, arredamento carino, signorina al check in gentile, camera subito pronta, profumo di pulito. Abbiamo anche apprezzato il bollitore in camera. Altro punto a favore il silenzio della camera che non dava sulla strada. Poi passando i giorni ci siamo accorti di alcune cose. La prima cosa che non ci ha convinto era la colazione: ci avevano informati che la sala per le colazioni apriva alle 8 e che le brioches sarebbero arrivate per le 8:30, un po' tardino per noi che avevamo prenotato tutte le visite ai vari punti d'interesse. Rientrando per la prima notte abbiamo trovato la camera fredda, chi aveva fatto le pulizie aveva lasciato l'aria condizionata accesa tutto il giorno, noi non l'abbiamo mai accesa (ed è successo così anche gli altri giorni). Poi guardandoci attorno ci siamo resi conto che le pulizie lasciavano un po' a desiderare (ragnatele, polvere). La notte non si sentiva il rumore della strada ma tutto il resto sì: arrivava qualsiasi rumore dalle altre camere e dal corridoio, si sentiva davvero tutto, quindi la privacy andava a farsi benedire, i muri interni infatti non sembravano di muratura ma tipo cartongesso. In camera era presente anche una poltroncina molto carina ma era sfondata, quindi la usavamo solo per appoggiarci gli zaini. Alla fine: la colazione. Secondo noi era piuttosto povera. Quando non c'erano le brioches praticamente si poteva mangiare solo pane tostato con marmellata o nutella e yogurt. Succhi tutti del gusto ace. In frigo c'erano uova, yogurt dell'Esselunga, burro e latte. Dopo i primi giorni in cui ci eravamo lamentati degli orari della colazione IN PRIVATO (la sera tardi, fra di noi, senza lamentarci con il personale della struttura) mercoledì troviamo le brioches subito la mattina presto verso le 07:45. (?) Altra cosa che non ci ha fatto piacere sono gli orari del personale. Su Internet era riportato che si poteva fare check out dalle 7, abbiamo dovuto aspettare quasi le 9 e avevamo una visita guidata alle 10... Alla fine sono problemi che potrebbero essere risolti facilmente quindi speriamo che questa possa essere presa come critica costruttiva. Forse un po' alto il costo per quello che...

Francesco is the best! He arranged for a driver to pick us up from the airport. The Driver was nice and almost like a tour guide. We got to our Inn/guesthouse and it was very clean!! All the doors in the street look the same so we had to remember what was across from it! We got a key to the place, didn’t need to be buzzed in. Francisco gave us a map and a lot of amazing directions and advise! I think we saw more of the city because of him!
