3 stars for Price Greed-flation
We ate here a few days ago. Got there around 6pm and there was no queue (Monday, public holiday).
Ordered 1x yakitori (¥250), fish sashimi (¥1000), fried octopus (¥800), 1x tempura (¥1500), tonkatsu set (¥1500) and some drinks. Sashimi is very fresh (fish still flopping about the plate, beware if you are squeamish) but that's not unusual in Japan.
All the food was good, not great 4/5.
What got me was the pricing. 1 year ago people posted yakitori at ¥180 (39% increase)! 6 months ago, omelette was ¥800, now it's ¥900. The menu pricing keeps increasing.
The items recommended by the restaurant & previous reviewers especially are increasingly expensive, and in our opinion, good but nothing great. There are many restaurants that taste similar or better at lower prices around Japan.
Almost all the diners at the restaurant were having the "recommended" food based on previous reviews. When we left (around 7.30pm), there was a line to get in.
Wouldn't go back. Several other better ones here.
Food prices do not include tax. That's...
Read moreBased on the recommendation of a Yamanashi local, we tried this restaurant tonight.
We started with the pickled cabbage appetizer. I enjoyed it. We then were served the fried octopus. It was good, but not my favorite.
Then we received the assorted sashimi. It was a bit surprising that the whole fish was served sashimi'd and it was still taking its last gasps. My wife was shocked and saddened by that, but nonetheless, we eventually did eat it. Just be warned.
We also tried the Yakitori. The skewers were good and were served with both a fresh garlic sauce and a spicy red sauce.
For our main dishes, I got the Ten-Don and my wife had the eel rice. My tempura was so good. The shrimp was very fresh and tasty.
The eel was delicious and was thankfully not bathed in a sweet sauce. It was naturally grilled and flavorful.
Overall a great dinner.
Please note: this is a cash only restaurant and that there is a parking lot...
Read moreWonderful meal, great hospitality n very fair prices at Amano. We stumbled upon this small humble restaurant by sheer chance wandering the back streets of Kawaguchiko. It is a gem so do yourself a favour n hustle over to check it out. The chef is an elderly Japanese gentleman assisted by his friendly wife n son. We ordered a HUGE meal of 3 sets of unagis, tempura prawns, casserole of chicken soup, sashimi, tamago n other stuffs I cannot remember. Communication was not easy so Google Translate became very convenient! Food came within half hour of ordering. Service was prompt n polite. It was a most satisfying meal, way too much food for seven people. At the end of our dinner, he offered us free gifts. How thoughtful is that! When we stepped out to leave, they came out to take photos with us. Hahaha. Great time, good people. Two thumbs up for Amano. Lesson here is you can stumble upon a gem by walking the back lanes of a...
